Re: Rock's Most Overated Songs

assuming you are talking about the live version that you'll usually hear played, that was actually on their first live album, Kiss - Alive! (1975)

;)

But I agree, it's the most overplayed tune by KISS and it's not even close. Quite a lot like the AC/DC Track a few have listed, Shook Me All Night Long.
You're right. I knew I was wrong the moment I hit "Submit Reply"...

Re: Rock's Most Overated Songs

I think overrated and overplayed can be considered one in the same IMO. Think about it, radio stations everywhere aren't going to play what everyone considers crummy songs. They're going to play the "best", or what they consider to be the best of one single artist/band, and those are the ones you'll hear the most. All of the songs on my list are both overrated and overplayed, but like I said I consider them to be the same thing.

Re: Rock's Most Overated Songs

I see it as a song that I find overplayed is merely a good song that is just being played to overbearing proportions. Over rated songs for me are songs that don't deserve in my eyes the praise they get.
Or some songs I call over rated more because I think some songs are better that are if anything underappreciated.

Mainstream radio will play the 'hits'. That doesn't make them the most highly acclaimed songs. But, some are. Which is why I said overplayed does not necessarily mean overrated.

In my opinion they are one on the same. That is fine that we don't agree on that. :cheers2

Of course it's fine. Why would I think otherwise? And I wasn't talking about your list, I was talking about most of the songs mentioned in the thread so far.

Oh, I know some don't consider Prince "rock", but I could go without hearing 1999 ever, ever again too. :bonk:

As far as over rated metal goes, I like Run To The Hills but I think that falls under over rated for me. Iron Maiden did better albums after Number of the Beast for me like the following 4 after it in Piece of Mind, Powerslave, Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son. I think over rated also doesn't necessarily mean dislike, it can be used in numerous contexts.

^^ far from his best work, but that song definitely put him on the map with back in '82, giving him the ear of the entire nation, as opposed to the much smaller audience he had on his first few albums. I agree it's been overplayed over the years, however in the past 10-12 years about the only time I've heard it on the radio would be right around New Years Eve. *shrug*
