Re: Rock's Most Overated Songs

As for other totally overblown, overrated, overpraised songs....

NUMBER 1 ... far and away, the single MOST overrated song ever would be:

Bob Dylan - Like A Rolling Stone

A slew on non-sensical jibberish. I find it annoying from the first note to the last
Add to it, the song is about 5 minutes and 55 seconds too damn long. Ugh. Horrible,
terrible and the true-blue definition of "Overrated"!
Not understanding a song doesn't make it non-sensical jibberish. I'm ok with people not liking the song's length, Bob Dylan's voice or maybe even liking it but consider it overrated.

I will have to think more about my own list of overrated songs, though. Can't think of any right now.

Re: Rock's Most Overated Songs

Just a few I hear a little overplayed on the radio:

Wonderwall
Glory Days
Born to be Wild :bonk:
We Will Rock You
Rock and Roll All Nite
Pour Some Sugar On Me
You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet
Another Brick in the Wall pt. 2
Imagine (thank you TS, finally someone else who agrees)

I'll have to think of more later.

Pour Some Sugar On Me I absolutely agree with. Its far from Def Leppards best in my opinion.

First one that comes to mind for me? "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" by The Rolling Stones. I understand it's significance in it's time or being a rude rock song but it's not like that first wheel that cavemen made was the best wheel ever. Looking at it nowadays I think it's a pretty bland, boring wheel....then again I just don't like the Stones in general so I might be biased. :peek

I don't know about over-rated but to me this is my 10 over-played list:

Fool In The Rain – Led-Zeppelin...too slow in the opening.
Start Me Up – The Rolling Stones...it never does.
Rock And Roll All Nite – KISS...I like it but there are others on "Alive II".
Another One Bites The Dust – Queen...lost the funk years ago to me.
Sweet Home Alabama – Lynyrd Skynyrd...the opening riff and Kid Rock.
Baba O’Riley – The Who...it's a wasteland of my time.
Foolin’ – Def Leppard...yes it is.
Can’t Buy Me Love – The Beatles...I'm not buyin', I liked the faster outtake.
Love In An Elevator – Aerosmith...I'd aspire to be in the Mile High Club instead.
Rock You Like A Hurricane – The Scorpions...no it doesn't.

Either I hear them too much or they never caught my fancy or both. There's a similar thread about this too but don't mind doin' it again.

assuming you are talking about the live version that you'll usually hear played, that was actually on their first live album, Kiss - Alive! (1975)

;)

But I agree, it's the most overplayed tune by KISS and it's not even close. Quite a lot like the AC/DC Track a few have listed, Shook Me All Night Long.

Re: Rock's Most Overated Songs

Ill throw songs I always hear on the radio from Ac/dc,
TNT
Its a Long Way To The Top.
Shoot to Thrill

These 3 songs are apparently all Ac/dc have since thats all I hear on radio shows that play Ac/dc.
Damn learn to play some variety. This is why I prefer to go out of my way to listen to music as opposed to casual use of the radio.

Riff, I would also add Thunderstruck as "overplayed" but I actually like that one so I won't call it overrated. :)

Yeah, to me this seems more like an overplayed list more than an overrated list. I mean, what if you only heard Sweet Home Alabama (I think this song was mentioned) a few times in your life...would you still think it's overrated? Overplayed does not necessarily mean overrated.

No argument from me there.
