Sox, The Pretty Things took the Stones look and sound and pushed it even further, "uglier cousins of the Rolling Stones.". Here's thier first single from '64:
Ya, Sox, Dick Taylor was the original bassist for the Stones. He left the band(can't remember the reason why, I think to go back to school) and then he and Phil May hooked up with Taylor now playing guitar and formed the Pretties.
Sox, didn't Stevie get tagged as the white Ray Charles by the British media back then? Something along that line anyway.
Big fan of his days with Spencer Davis and Traffic. I do have one of his solo albums, Arc Of The Diver. It's been a hell of a long time since I've listened to it. I remember at the time, I think it was 1980 or there abouts and he had a couple of hits off the album. Also, I remember the production and sound quality was one of the best I heard at that time. I like Steve but I like Muff a lot more.
Manfred Mann was another alumni from Graham Bond and formed the band in which his name was tagged and featured the great vocalist David Jones. "Do Wah Diddy Diddy" was a big hit in '64.
The band went onto a long career. I was never a big fan but do have few pieces of vinyl from them. Solar Fire is one that stands out for me. Fairly prog driven.
Yeah Manfred Mann with Tom McGuinness who played guitar with Eric Clapton in the Roosters and I think Jack Bruce had a spell with Manfred too.
Joe wasn't the singer Paul Jones .. him and Tom are now in The Blues Band with Dave Kelly ?
Hey Sox, I totally forgot about the Roosters. It's all coming back now. I think you are right about Jack Bruce. I don't know The Blues Band but the name Dave Kelly sounds familar. Brother or husband of blues vox Jo Ann Kelly. Maybe(?).
