9 US bands and one Canadian, I must strongly disagree with that list as I'm sure there are lots of bands not only American.

I have no problem with that list, as I look back many of the First Wave English bands dominated every aspect of rock and roll. It took a while for the bands over here to level the playing field a little bit. And nothing will ever take away from the prestige of the legendary British bands and what they accomplished anyway.

On top of it all Nolo, this is an American site so it's not surprising they are showing some love for bands that might have been overlooked in their day.

Grand Funk and The Guess Who are my two top picks from that list, one that does surprise me is the Raspberries,,,I am an Eric Carmen fan but they didn't leave as big a "dent" as most of their peers in my view.

I like these kinds of lists because although it is a list about bands that should be more respected, this list creates the atmosphere for people to respect them. If that makes sense.

Even that Iron Butterfly definitely should be mentioned, one of the best US hard rock overshadowed by In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida.

Definitely agree with Steppenwolf.

I thought Foreigner would have been good for the list, considering I can't think of too many classic rock bands with the possible exception of Journey or Styx who get lampooned or made fun of as much in popular culture as Foreigner.

Foreigner also tends to get slammed by critics more than some of their contemporaries, to boot.

^^I rate Foreigner's first 4 albums very highly myself, and Styx, Boston and Journey all seem to get disregarded for some reason. Like being popular was a sin of some kind.:nw:

I remember being at a bar one time with a friend who was a pretty big Foreigner fan and he actually made an interesting point one night over 9 or 10 drinks. Being the good listener I am, I sat back and let him talk.

Rambling on, he explained how Foreigner gets lambasted for all of the ballads they recorded in the 80's and how their music became a little more cliched during that time period.

Which led him to say that the only thing which stopped Led Zeppelin from doing the exact same thing (degenerating into too many ballads and cliches) was that they didn't hang around long enough recording albums and that given 10-12 more years they would have ended up becoming watered down the same as Foreigner and Aerosmith.

^^Zeppelin was getting a lot of stick for "In Through The Out Door" back in the day, and from what their fans were saying they were not performing live at a high level either. Then tragedy struck and everything was forgotten and the band achieved mythical status...which has lasted even to the present day.

I don't mind ballads at all, I don't mind up tempo rockers either, so I am easily pleased and that doesn't bother me in the slightest.:D
