Don't expect any more major rock revolutions.Essentially,it's all been done.Even the Grunge movement of the early nineties was cited by many as America's rather tardy version of 1970's English Punk.As far as the Hip Hop boon of the 90's,there's actually been Rap as far back as the late 1920's.There just wasn't Gansta Rap back then.OF course, plenty of big time gangsters, but no Gansta Rap................

That's what I love about the modern music scene since the 2,000's. I love that there will never be that one dominant scene or band in rock for quite some time.

See I really miss that. I sad there isn't any band that gets the support to take them from playing gigs at a local pub and eventually play stadiums. The Stones and Ac/Dc don't have many years left in them. :uh: Is stadium rock set to be a thing of the past?

The biggest breath of fresh air when feeling down isn't always to listen to something uplifting. You don't really want to hear people who sound happier than you. Listening to the emotions of someone who relates to a darker part of life or mood is much more cathartic than some happy go lucky tune imo. :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. Sometimes the music to relate to is the more darker and melancholic music.

I also agree. Some of us are "in a spot" that we can't get out of, and it's just nice to be understood at my own level instead of being coaxed out of my comfort zone.

Grunge may have been nihilistic and even borderline whiny at times

"borderline whiny"? Are you kidding? Grunge was "borderline" whiny like the Pope is "borderline" Catholic

Whiniest genre/subgenre of music of the last 100 years. Delta blues musicians were about as uplifting as dancing the jitterbug compared to the self-loathing crap that came out of the mouths of many of the grunge bands back in the day.

If you like whiny music/lyrics, that's awesome --- good for you, but liking something depressing and whiny doesn't make it ~not~ whiny.

The current pope is borderline Catholic. But that's a whole other can of wurms.
