^^That's not what I said, it changed forever in the 90's is what I was getting at.
The 90's rock scene will never be my favorite no offense to younger folks who love Grunge and their bands, but growing up in the 60's and 70's well those bands will always rate higher for me no matter what. I didn't hate the 80's either, glam/hair metal brought women into the concert scene more than ever before which was a good thing.
Grunge to me was kind of depressing, Rap I won't bother saying how I feel about it again everyone already knows.
The golden age of rock and roll ended in the 70's period. I would stand by that statement, but that doesn't mean there haven't been talented good bands making great music since then either.

I said music as a whole got shitty in the late 90s after say, 1997 or 1998. Of course, it is only my opinion. But never did I insinuate that 90s music is shitty. The 90s is my favourite decade for music, man! It is all tied to teenage nostalgia of course.

I was talking about MTV in general in the late 90s. There were several so-called "post grunge" bands getting mainstream exposure, like Collective Soul, Bush, Better Than Ezra, Gin Blossoms etc. Though I did not hate them or anything, to me they were a pale shadow of original grunge bands like Soundgarden, AiC, Pearl Jam and so on. So that was the rock scene at the time. To make things worse, they were a zillion boy bands around... all aping the Backstreet Boys or NSYNC who were also shitty in the first place! Plus, there was stuff like Puff Daddy's (or was it P. Diddy?) I'll Be Missing You, a hip hop remix of the Police classic Every Breath You take. If I hear it again, I may want to stab my ears to stop the pain!
To make things even worse, R&B also changed in that era with groups like Destiny's Child and All Saints. I preferred early 90s R&B to this crappy new version that Mariah Carey also embraced completely during the time. She suddenly went all hip hop in the late 90s which made her already commercial as heck pop music even worse! lol. I know it was not all bad but... I remember all these things about the late 90s.One thing that I thought was ****ing fantabulous in the late 90s though was the electronica craze! I absolutely loved bands like The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim etc. during their peak around 1997 or so. Even other artists like U2, Madonna, R.E.M., Depeche Mode, Duran Duran etc. experimented with electronica during that time.

I do not like grunge music. As a matter of fact, I really don't like any music from the 90's, a few of hits maybe? Something happened in the 90's that sent the U.S. Rock scene into the abyss. As much as I would like to know what happened to Rock or blame it on this genre or the other, I cannot. Grunge was not what was expected.
Here is my guess for what happened/my opinion. The kids that were supposed to be the next Rock N Roll Stars became something else (Grunge). Totally different from what was expected by the American Youth. "This can't be Rock 'N' Roll?! Can it?" Some accepted it and loved it, some didn't and went looking for the Rock 'N' Roll in other genres or looked to the Rock 'N' Roll of the past. The American Youth's genre had disappeared so the majority flocked to Rap and Pop.
As for Rock festivals, I know nothing of what happened there.

I see where Rob Zombie is coming from. Rock n Roll got depressing in the 90s and more and more kids got into Hip Hop. I should know, I saw it happen in my high school. Being born in 1980 I'd be labelled 'grunge' era. Thankfully I'd discovered Guns N Roses, Ac/Dc and Iron Maiden when I was 9.
In the 90s so many of my friends started listening to hip hop cause grunge was just so miserable. The attitude to many of the young kids i know at my work these days is that hard rock / metal is all about depression, anger, violence and screaming. Their only exposure to a form of rock is either grunge, emo, or nu-metal cause that's all they've heard on the charts. So in that sense I can see where Rob is coming from.
