AC/DC
Rush
Ozzy Osbourne
Guns 'n Roses
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Blood, Sweat & Tears with David Clayton Thomas

Mine for one. A good caning is what you deserve for lumping the Rolling Stones in with Britney Spears. You must be in the "They should step aside and make it easier for today's artists to get a piece of the rock dollar camp". Well who the hell ever promised young musicians it had to be easy? Longevity in a band is a plus, not a minus.

I will then. The mid-seventies Fleetwood Mac lineup responsible for "Rumours". Middle of the road pop. Pablum for the masses!

:drums:

longevity without any quallity isnt worth it. saw the stones a few years ago one of the most forgettable concerts i have ever paid for.

NOOOOOO WAAAYYYYYY......the so-called "King of Pop" alias jacko is much more OVERRated than the Pelvis :):):lmao::cheers:

Elvis is a music highjacker IMO. If Chuck Berry didnt go to jail Elvis would have never made it. Elvis's biggest hit hound dog wasnt even originally done by him. he did the music that Berry, Litte Richard, Ike Turner among many others were doing years before and made it mainstream largely because of the color of his skin.

-total fail- Sorry, but I've read some of your posts and whereas "everyone is a star and welcome to their opinion" is my motto, dude, you're preachin', but you ain't got a congregation. At least not here.

Got a lot to learn about the nature of subjectivity. "Elvis made it because he's white" What bullshit.

It's not an uncommon opinion that Elvis borrowed from many prior artist and genres. It's no less of an opinion than what people have said about any artist borrowing from something else. That being said I'm a fan of Elvis's music and every hijacks music to some degree.

It's nothing to do with "borrowing". As you say that's the nature of artistic inspiration. It's the racial stuff I deplore. I won't hang my hat along with that.

Well I think it's safe to say that you guys will disagree on that plain and simple. I don't think there can or will be a constructive argument about this at this point so I'd like to see this move on. I've seen debates with much better potential than this. Peace!

Gregjohnson didn't make any racist comment in my opinion... I quite agree that color of skin for artists in those days could actually influence popularity... I don't know if it goes for Elvis or not but it could've been of influence. I'm not a racist for thinking it might have made a difference, there is a clear line in between thinking it had an influence or actually letting it influence you.

So I think Soot is right in the above post :D Let's move on!

Yeah, race was a HUGE influence on popular music and everything around it back in those days. DJs lost jobs sometimes for playing "race records"...some venues wouldn't host any black artists at all. Anybody who doesn't think race was a HUGE influence and obstacle in music ( and most any other aspect of American life) in the 50's doesn't know their history too well. I think Elvis kinda split the difference - if he had been black he couldn't have reached that level of popularity, but he was still more "dangerous" than most white performers of the time.
No knock against Elvis but if he had been black he would never have been any bigger than Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Bo Diddley, Fats Domino or any of those guys.
