Yes, I know. I've listed nothing by The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd, Rush, Van Halen, EC, Cream, David Bowie, Elton John, and dozens of other rock artists/bands that the majority of people would undoubtedly choose from. Oh Well!

^ Live albums is a good call.....Bon please start a thread on that.

I wanted to name a few lps that should imho be in any serious rock fans collection at home.
These are not big names like Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, Who, Bowie, Dylan, etc...though a few have become better known after many years while a few remain unknown to the general public.
A few of my all time favorite records that I never tire of hearing. These just popped into my head but I'll post others if they come to me....albums that 'talk to me' for various reasons.
In no special order......

Spirit- '12 Dreams of Dr Sardonicus'
Nick Drake-'Five Leaves Left'
I've deleted all of the albums from your quoted list except the two I have. Both are excellent albums.

Were I to go as far as saying that (?) should be in any serious rock fans collection, I would probably include some of the ones I picked. Because they are incredible rock albums.

Furthermore, were I to go beyond the 11 I listed in my post above, I would also include (for the Serious rock fan):

Brain Salad Surgery - ELP
(Every) Beatles album
Aqualung - Jethro Tull
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - EJ
(Every) Aerosmith album up to Draw The Line
At Filmore East - The ABB
(Every) Bob Seger album
Boston - Boston
Frampton Comes Alive - Peter Frampton
Bridge Of Sighs - Robin Trower
(Every) Jimi Hendrix studio album
(Every) CCR album
Machine Head & Burn - Deep Purple
Hotel California - The Eagles
Rumors & Fleetwood Mac - Fleetwood Mac
Alive - Kiss
(Every) Led Zeppelin album
(Every) Ten Years After album
Street Survivors - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Mott - Mott The Hoople
The first 16 (US) Stones albums
Lights Out & Phenomenon - UFO
Virgin Killers - Scorpions
The Last Live - X Japan
Several ZZ Top albums
and a whole lot more!

But I'm not qualified to determine what a Serious Rock Fan is, so I won't.

Well.....'serious' is just an adjective....pick another one like 'discerning'...it might fit better.
I have many of the bands/lps you listed there but not all, but then I'm picky about what I listen to and my grandaughter even bought me a pair of socks a few years back that say 'music snob' on them.
In the end it's subjective which is why I always question these lists members post because best and gtreatest, etc are completely subjective when all is said and done.
For instance most critics think Capt Beefheart(Don Van Vliet) was an effing genius but most rock fans simply dont like ( get?) what he's doing (Trout Mask Replica?)......maybe we 'should' blame the critics? ;)

Personally, I would name Michael Oldfield the most underrated, under appreciated musician in the pantheon of R&R gods. But that's my opinion. I've listened to the Captain and to Frank Zappa enough to know that I didn't get what they were doing. Which doesn't mean that I didn't appreciate their obvious talent.

That's an interesting name choice.....I dont know many that have his albums except for the prog fans over at Prog Rock Archives who are fond of him for the most part. I have his first 3 or 4 lps....but dont play them often. But then I have far too many prog lps to keep track of.
Not sure I would call him a 'R&R god' (Exorcist film made him famous) and I'm one of the few at PA that took a gentle shot at him in the past.....they have him listed as 'crossover prog' on PA...what ever that means. Certainly a very talented musician with some nice things but I often find his lps a bit repetetive.

I rate musicians on their numerous talents. For one, there are very few musicians who can play as many instruments as Mike Oldfield. Next of all, his guitar playing is as good as any of those considered truly great by most 'experts', and a whole lot better than overrated posers like EC. Sure, his style has varied considerably in his career so far, but IMO that does not reduce the level of his talent or godliness.
John Fogerty's music, for the most part, was repetitive. Some would say that the entire collection of CCR sounded the same. And though I would probably agree with them, I would still consider Fogerty a musical genius.
So you're right: everything is subjective and based upon personal taste.

"Godliness'...?

"Godliness'...?

Godliness means the quality or state of being godly, pious, or devoted to God and moral duty.
Definition and Meaning . . .
General meaning: Devoutness, reverence for divine laws, and upright moral character.
Biblical roots: From the Greek word eusebeia, which translates literally to "right worship" or "good respect".
Core concept: An inner devotion to God that guides outward actions, character, and daily life rather than just a strict checklist of external rules.

Gods or so called 'False Gods'. One must believe in the first to believe in the second.

Ok then...no idea what that has to do with Oldfield unless you know him personally......
Perhaps you should start a theology thread? ;)
