I'm a long time Alvin Lee fan, for many years, too. I first was introduced to his terrific guitar works when my older brother bought and repeatedly played many of the superb TYA albums mentioned in this excellent thread!

I also had the great pleasure to experience Alvin Lee in concert in the earlier part of the 1980's at a fairly small local venue. Although I was a fan for many years before that show, I was blown away with his skills, talent, experience and showmanship! His performance stood out in many ways then, and remains one of the best that I've experienced. I do believe I enjoyed see that show much more at that music hall, which only had a 200 to 300 hundred seating capacity, and with many of the people standing throughout his performance, too! Imo, that didn't take anything away from his performance, the show, nor the overall experience, at least it didn't for me! :)

A terrific Alvin Lee jam of a great TYA classic to enjoy...

I had the pleasure of seeing Alvin Lee and Johnny Winter on the same bill.

I almost died.
:heheh:

Talk about an overdose of Rock & Roll. :grinthumb

Two of the world's greatest guitarist ever, both performing long electrifying blistering sets!!

:cheers2

Groovy was that at the Calderone Theater in Long Iisland? I was at the show and a band called "The Bluesblasters" were also on the bill. Strangely enough Leslie West was also touring with Alvin Lee and Johnny Winter but for some reason didn't appear at the Calderone. Would have loved to have seen all three of them on the same bill....talking about dying and going to guitar heaven!!

Would agree that Alvin is a phenomenal guitarist and own just about all of Ten Years After's albums as well as some of his solo work. I've seen him live 4 times and he always puts on a great show.

I remember reading an interview with Ritchie Blackmore where he said that Alvin Lee plays the guitar all wrong???? Blackmore is obviously a great guitarist but has a tendency to be a pompous ass.

Yes, the Calderone Theater in Hempstead! Early 80's.

Wow...small world...what a show, huh?

Both, Johnny Winter and Alvin Lee were on top of their game that night. Blistering hot sets. I've seen a lot concerts and a lot of greats, but that would have to be in my top 10 of concerts of all time. An amazing night! I'll never forget. I still get excited thinking about it!

And as far as The Bluesblasters go, I don't remember, because back in those days, I usually didn't go in for the opening act.

BTW, I seen Leslie West (billed as ''Mountain'', Corky Laing on drums and don't remember who played bass) and Johnny Winter together once, outdoors under a huge tent out east, in Riverhead (Long Island) on a hot summer night back in the 90's - another great double bill concert!

Oh yeah, definately a great show. I just found my old ticket stub and saw that was on Febuary 26 1983 (man do I feel old). It's funny but when my friends and I got to the theater there was this group of old people standing outside all dressed up and under the impression that an opera was suppossed to be there that night. One woman with a real upper crust accent said "Oh my....a rock concert....how horrible!!! Which made me and my friends crack up.

That was the only time I went to the Calderone though went to " My Father's Place" in Roslyn a few times and saw Jack Bruce, Jorma Kaukonen, David Bromberg plus some other bands that escape me right now.

I wasn't familiar the Bluesblasters before and when I first heard about the show thought it was the Blues Breakers and said "damn...John Mayall, Johnny Winter and Alvin Lee on the same bill!!!!!

I saw Leslie West and Corky Laing open up for Dio at the Beacon Theater for the Holy Diver tour. Leslie must have been at the 300 lb mark and sat on a stool for the whole show. Though he still sounded great.

Alvin Lee is one of my fav guitarist. His superspeed is not only factor for that title, for I better like guitarist with a feel than with a speed. However, Alvin has both and he nailed some badass albums with TYA. I love Ssssh, Cricklewood and my fav A Space In Time. He's great on electric, aswell as on acoustic guitar and that's one of his big advantages.

I just looked through my collection and all my Ten Years After stuff is missing in action after a move I under took awhile ago . Not happy about that at all.
