Amazingly, as common and synonymous as the love song is in music we really don't have a thread for it! Maybe it's because it's corny or because the person making it will be teased but screw it, I can take it! If you are up for it tell me ten of your favorite love songs in whatever context you consider a love song. If you don't mind it would be cool to hear an anecdote or two about why you chose the songs. Here's mine!

#1. The Calling-Stigmatized

A lot of love songs have an element of tragedy in them. This one doesn't which makes it a great contrast. A song about being enamored back up by a vocalist so passionate you believe it! :grinthumb

If I give up on you I give up on me
If we fight what's true, will we ever be
Even God himself and the faith I knew
Shouldn't hold me back, shouldn't keep me from you

Chorus:
Tease me, by holding out your hand
Then leave me, or take me as I am
And live our lives, stigmatized

I can feel the blood rushing though my veins
When I hear your voice, driving me insane
Hour after hour day after day
Every lonely night that I sit and pray

Chorus

We live our lives on different sides,
But we keep together you and I
Just live our lives, stigmatized

We'll live our lives, We'll take the punches everyday
We'll live our lives I know we're gonna find our way

I believe in you
Even if no one understands
I Believe in you, and I don't really give a damn
stigmatized
We live our lives on different sides
But we keep together you and I
We live our lives on different sides

We're gonna live our lives
Gotta live our lives
We're gonna live our lives
We're gonna live our lives, Gonna live our lives, Stigmatized

#2 Blessid Union of Souls-Rest Of My Life

This was my song with my first love and still holds a nice place in my heart. A lighthearted simple song about friendship turned to love which was my first experience with the subject!

I know you're heard the excuses before
So I won't waste your time and I'll keep this short
I've bound my emotions 'cause I can't afford to be wrong
I know we've talked about being good friends
So we've been real careful of the signals we've sent
But all of your glances they came and the went to my head
And I'm not a man to throw words to the wind
When I said "I love you" that's what I meant
And I plan to show you if it takes me the rest of my life
The rest of my life
The rest of my life
I don't want to rush this cause my greatest fear
is taking for granted what's taken us years
To build from the ground up with all of the tears that we cried
We've taken our time and for this I'm so glad
Now we can be sure that this moment will last
We've traveled a road of mistakes in our past to get her
And I'm not about to throw words to the wind
When I said "I love you" that's what I meant
And I'm going to show you if it takes me the rest of my life
The rest of my life
The rest of my life
And I'm not a man to throw words to the wind
When I said "I love you" well, that's what I meant
And I plan to show you if it takes me the rest of my life

#3 Something Corporate-Konstantine

My friends on here know that this would be included on here the second they saw the title of the thread. This is not a happy song content wise but the melody sounds like love to me and this ambiguous song wraps up the innocence, passion, tragedy and nostalgia that comes with any love story! Nearly ten beautiful minutes!

I can't imagine all the people that you know
and the places that you go
When the lights are turned down low
and I don't understand all the things you've seen
but I'm slipping in between
You and your big dreams
It's always you
In my big dreams
And you tell me that its over
wake up lying in a patch of four leaf clovers
and your restless
and i'm naked
you gotta get out
you cant stand to see me shaking
no
could u let me go?
i didn't think so
and you don't wanna be here in the future
so you say the presents just a pleasant interruption to the past
and you don't wanna look much closer
cause you're afraid to find out all this hope
you had sent into the sky by now had
crashed
and it did
because of me

and then you bring me home
afraid to find out that your alone oh
and I'm sleeping in your living room
but we don't have much room to live

and i had these dreams in them i learned to play guitar
maybe cross the country
become a rock star
and there was hope in me that I could take you there
but dammit you're so young
well I don't think i care
and if I hurt you
then I'm sorry
please don't think that this was easy

and then you bring me home
cause we both know what its like to be alone oh
and I'm dreaming in your living room
but we don't have much room to live

and Konstantine is walking down the stairs
doesn't she look good
standing in her underwear
and i was thinking
what i was thinking
we've been drinking and it doesn't get me anywhere
my Konstantine came walking down the stairs
and all that i could do was touch her long blond hair
and I've been thinking
but it hurts me thinking
that these nights when we were drinking
no they never got us anywhere
no

this is because I can spell confusion with a 'K'
and I can like it
its to dying in another's arms
and why I had to try it
its to Jimmy Eat orld
and those nights in my car
when the first star you see
may not be a star
I'm not your star
isn't that what you said
what you thought this song meant

and if this is what it takes
just to lye with my mistakes
and live with what i did to you
all the hell I put you through
I always catch the clock
its 11:11
now you wanna talk
its not hard to dream
you'll always be my Konstantine
my Konstantine
they'll never hurt you like i do
no they'll never hurt you like i do
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no

this is to a girl
who got into my head
with all the pretty things she did
hey
ya know
you keep me up in bed
this is to a girl
who got into my head
with all these ****ed up things I did
hey
maybe
baby you could keep me up in bed
my Konstantine

you spin around me like a dream
we played out on this movie screen
and I said
did you know I missed you(x7)
I miss you

and then you bring me home
and we go to sleep
but this time not alone
and I know
and you'll kiss me in your living room
I know
I know you miss me in your living room
cause these nights i think
maybe that i miss you in my living room
but we don't have much room
I said does anybody need that room
because we all need a little more room
to live

my Konstantine...

#4 The Spill Canvas-Self Conclusion

Created like a movie scene, this simple acoustic story brings together the tale of two people at the end of their rope who find hope in each other.

"Fade in, start the scene
Enter beautiful girl
But things are not what they seem
As we stand at the edge of the world."

Excuse me sir,
But I had plans to die tonight
Oh, and you are directly in my way
And I bet you're gonna say it's not right
My reply:
Excuse me miss,
But do you have the slightest clue
Of exactly what you just said to me
And exactly who you're talking to?

She said, "I don't care, you don't even know me."
I said, "I know but I'd like to change that soon, hopefully."
Yeah, we all flirt with the tiniest notion
Of self conclusion in one simplified motion
You see the trick is that you're never supposed to act on it
No matter how unbearable this misery gets

You make it sound so easy to be alive
But tell me how am I supposed to seize this day
When everything inside of me has died
My reply:
Trust me girl
I know your legs are pleading to leap
But I offer you this easy choice
Instead of dying, living with me

She said, "Are you crazy? You don't even know me."
I said, "I know but I'd like to change that soon, hopefully."
Yeah, we all flirt with the tiniest notion
Of self conclusion in one simplified motion
You see the trick is that you're never supposed act on it
No matter how unbearable this misery gets

I would be lying if I said that things would never get rough
And all this cliche motivation, it could never be enough
I could stand here all night trying to convince you
But what good would that do? My offer stands and you must choose

"All right, you win, but I only give you one night
To prove yourself to be better than my attempt at flight
I swear to God if you hurt me I will leap
I will toss myself from these very cliffs
And you'll never see it coming."
"Settle precious, I know what you're going through
Cause ten minutes before you got here I was gonna jump too."

Yeah we all flirt with the tiniest notion
Of self conclusion in one simplified motion
You see the trick is that you're never supposed act on it
No matter how unbearable this misery gets

#5 Straylight Run-The Perfect Ending

A song of being unselfish about a love that has moved on and moving on yourself.

Taken in context
It's not a bad thing
But when you start to pick it apart
It gets so depressing
It's that sort of thing
That makes you think too much
It's that sort of thing
That makes you lose your objectivity

So, if you made it
Just be glad that you did and stay there
If you ever feel loved or needed
Remember that you're one of the lucky ones
And if it's over
Just remember what I told you
It was bound to happen
So, just keep moving on
There's no perfect endings

You peel back the layers
And get down to the inside
But sometimes you lose sight
Of what it was you were trying to find
And it's that sort of thing
That makes you think too much
It's that sort of thing
That makes you lose your objectivity

So, if you made it
Just be glad that you did and stay there
If you ever feel loved or needed
Remember that you're one of the lucky ones
And if it's over
Just remember what I told you
It was bound to happen
So, just keep moving on
There's no perfect endings
No perfect endings

#6 Ryan Adams-How Do You Keep Love Alive

I don't think I've seen many more beautiful and bold words about the subject as I've seen when he talks about picking her or holding her mother's hand on the day she was born. Beautiful poetry!

Lord, I miss that girl
On the day we met the sun was shining down
Down on the valley
Riddled with horses running
Crushing them with flowers
I would have picked for her
On the day she was born
She runs through my veins like a long black river
And rattles my cage like a thunderstorm
Oh my soul

What does it mean?
What does it mean?
What does it mean to be so sad?
When someone you love
Someone you love is supposed to make you happy
What do you do
How do you keep love alive?
When it won't
What, what are the words
They use when they know it's over
"We need to talk," or
"I'm confused, maybe later you can come over"
I would've held your mother's hand
On the day you was born
She runs through my veins
Like a long black river and rattles my cage
Like a thunderstorm
Oh, my soul
What does it mean?
What does it mean?
What does it mean to be so sad?
When someone you love
Someone you love is supposed to make you happy
What do you do
How do you keep love alive?
When it won't

#7 Ben Folds-The Luckiest

A song about the most beautiful love at all. The one that last into old age! I relate because my grandparents are the sweetest couple I've ever seen and that sort of love seems to be lost in recent times.

I don't get many things right the first time
In fact, I am told that a lot
Now I know all the wrong turns, the stumbles and falls
Brought me here

And where was I before the day
That I first saw your lovely face?
Now I see it everyday
And I know

That I am
I am
I am
The luckiest

What if I'd been born fifty years before you
In a house on a street where you lived?
Maybe I'd be outside as you passed on your bike
Would I know?

And in a white sea of eyes
I see one pair that I recognize
And I know

That I am
I am
I am
The luckiest

I love you more than I have ever found a way to say to you

Next door there's an old man who lived to his nineties
And one day passed away in his sleep
And his wife; she stayed for a couple of days
And passed away

I'm sorry, I know that's a strange way to tell you that I know we belong
That I know

That I am
I am
I am
The luckiest

#8 The Smashing Pumpkins-For Martha

This song is for the non-romantic type but equally as meaningful if not more. The song was written for Billy's mom when she passed away. The song is just him accepting it and saying to her to not worry as their paths will pass again. So epically gorgeous in every way as only Billy can do!

Whenever I run
Whenever I run to you lost one
It's never done
Just hanging on

Just past has let me be
Returning as if dream
Shattered as belief

If you have to go don't say goodbye
If you have to go don't you cry
If you have to go I will get by
Someday I'll follow you and see you on the other side

But for the grace of love
I'd will the meaning of
Heaven from above

Your picture out of time
Left aching in my mind
Shadows kept alive

If you have to go don't say goodbye
If you have to go don't you cry
If you have to go I will get by
I will follow you and see you on the other side

But for the grace of love
I'd will the meaning of
Heaven from above

Long horses we are born
Creatures more than torn
Mourning our way home

#9 Bedlight For BlueEyes-Walk With Me

Just a song for the brighter moments of new love on the romantic side similar to my #1! The vocalist is also amazing!

I walk up the staircase and through the door
To find the light has beat me there
It stretched across her hair
And in her eyes and she just smiles
And it's all she needs to say
And I feel fine
All the moments in my life have lead to this

My mouth forfeits my words
Dedication song to her

Will you walk with me
Cause I can't see
Just where I'm meant to be
Replay the scene over and over
And never change a thing
Ohh will you walk with me

She walked down the hallway and through the door
To find the light is waiting there
And its more than I can bare to look away
And I just smile it's all I need to say
To make her see that it's moments just like these
That I need

My mouth forfeits my words
She may not be mine but I'm all hers

Will you walk with me
Cause I can't see
Just where I'm meant to be
Replay the scene over and over
And never change a thing
Ohh will you walk with me

Will you walk with me
Cause I can't see
Just where I'm meant to be
Replay the scene over and over
And never change a thing

Ohh will you walk with me (will you walk)
Cause I can't see just where I'm meant to be (just where I'm meant to be)
Replay the scene (over and over) over and over
And never change a thing
Ohh will you walk with me

#10 Emerson Hart-I Wish The Best For You

This is a song Emerson wrote about a couple that was together for a long time and realized that they should divorce. It's about how they tried separating even though they still loved each other and wanted the best for each other. I played the song quite a bit at a time when I could relate to it to a lesser extent of course!

how long can we wait here to say goodbye?
the words once they're spoken,
are words that we can't take
back to where we were before
things got in the way
life gets so confusing
when you know what you're losing

you, me, why can't we see that there's more to love than we'll ever know?
sometimes you're closer when you're letting go
I wish the best for you
I wish the best for you.

we'll both regret the hurting
that we will do.
you'll learn to forget me,
and I'll try, I'll try to forget

you, me, why can't we see that there's more to love than we'll ever know? sometimes you're closer your when you're letting go

I wish the best for you
I wish the best...

if you ever need a place that you can run to,
I'll be here,
I'll be here.

repeat

Romeo & Juliet - Dire Straits

This song reminds me of my parents. Apparently it was the first slow dance they had together and it was played at their wedding. The are still in love and very happy!

Agreed, Romeo And Juliet is a fantastic ballad, I listened to it while driving a couple of days ago and it gave me goosebumps :grinthumb

Another one that has that effect on me is Connected by Sparkadia:

Sitting in your little car it's feels like something's pulling us apart
Maybe it's just gravity some force of nature bigger than the two of us

If we wait and see,
we could live like this forever and never really see,
that you and I are not meant to be alone,
floating in the night

Don't tell me that we're not connected
Don't tell me that we're not the same
Don't say that we'll be the only ones floating all alone
Not you, not me, not us

Maybe it's the hand of god, the twist of fate,
the lucky break that never comes...(till it's too late)
Sitting in your little car it feels like something's pulling us apart

If we wait and see,
we could live like this forever and never really see,
that you and I are not meant to be alone,
floating in the night

Don't tell me that we're not connected
Don't tell me that we're not the same
Don't say that we'll be the only ones floating all alone
Not you, not me, not us

If we wait and see,
we could live like this forever and never really see,
that you and I are not meant to be alone,
floating in the sky until the morning sun comes up.
We don't have the time,
to wonder what connects us to each other's lives,
I guess we'll never know,
so don't compromise what we have now

Great Idea Soot :grinthumb

well I love great love songs
and The Beatles made SO many I could pick anyone of them but this is the one I think is one of their MOST beautiful love songs

It's a Paul song so I guessing it may have been about Jane Asher..
in any case this is #1 out of my 10 :cheers2

Send "Here, There And Everywhere"

To lead a better life I need my love to be here...

Here, making each day of the year
Changing my life with a wave of her hand
Nobody can deny that there's something there

There, running my hands through her hair
Both of us thinking how good it can be
Someone is speaking but she doesn't know he's there

I want her everywhere and if she's beside me
I know I need never care
But to love her is to need her everywhere
Knowing that love is to share

Each one believing that love never dies
Watching her eyes and hoping I'm always there

I want her everywhere and if she's beside me
I know I need never care
But to love her is to need her everywhere
Knowing that love is to share

Each one believing that love never dies
Watching her eyes and hoping I'm always there

I will be there and everywhere
Here, there and everywhere

Landslide is a Smashing Pumpkins cover of a Fleetwood Mac song which I listened to when going through the end of a relationship. To me, it is a song about taking a look at yourself and deciding who you are and it's (I think) also about finding the courage to make changes and leave behind a love that may not be giving you what you need.

Maybe I shouldn't have posted it on this thread because it's more a song (I think) about love ending.
