I hate when you think something is 100% live and it's not. I'm glad Kiss has never been suspected of adding recorded music to their live performances. Especially Kiss "Alive". oh, wait.....

Bring that up and I guarantee he spouts off some nonsense about giving the fans the best product blah blah blah.

I believe we had a thread about these exact same comments (or nearly identical ones Gene has made in the past) already. It was a pretty good thread if I recall. This has become a good thread on its own though. :grinthumb

Neither Madge nor Rihanna lip-synch or use pre-recorded music. They use live instrumentation and DJs. Electronic music is its own style of music in its own right, for Gene to act as though it's not 'okay' for them to use DJs is nonsensical on the most intrinsic level. It's the same as if I went to a violin recital and complained about them not playing guitar. Or if somebody went to a Kiss concert and complained about there not being a DJ.

Nobody has to like electronic music but there's nothing wrong with electronic artists using electronic music, that's the style of music they play!

Lots of people will agree with Gene's opinion on this. He has a way of thinking back to when bands performed "LIVE" on stage and he will get eyes rolling from just as many since technology has progressed to what music is today. Pop has always been loops and samples and pre-recorded dub overs. As it's been pointed out before. Pop stars have a big stage show where they dance while performing soooo. Getting out of breath would be a reason to lip sync during high energy songs on stage.
It just ****** off those who hate to see music go in that direction and become the "Big Seller"
There is no reason to rip people off by lip-syncing, watch any Guns N' Roses performence, especially back in the 80s and 90s and Axl Rose is running around while singing in perfect pitch, and that was apparent with alot of bands and singers back in the day. And it shouldn't matter how much "technology has progressed" does that mean people shouldn't be honest ?

Someone should just make a "Gene Simmons and Sammy Hagar vs. The World" thread and add to it whenever these two open their mouths about whatever they're bitching about that week. :)
So me and you can have our opinions, but since someone is famous they are stripped of that privlidge ?

Considering how much Kiss has whored itself out over the last two decades in terms of merchandise and commercialism, he really isn't one who should be talking about authenticity.
KISS may have "whored themselves out" in many cases, with merchandise, commercialism, and in their music. But they have never lip synced or ripped anyone off at a concert. They always tend to put on a propper honest show in one way or another. Where he is not complaining about Commercialism or Merchandise. But people lip-syncing and being completely fake performers on stage. Theres a difference there.

Merchandising a brand has absolutely NOTHING to do with what he is talking about, which is preforming live ... and if not performing live, have the balls to be upfront with the audience and say "most of what you are going to see if 100% fake, well other than us dancing on stage, but that is the ONLY ~live~ thing you will see and hear tonight".

Want to rip KISS and/or Gene for the ridiculous amounts of merchandising, feel free, but as I said, it has nothing to do with the topic at hand. Katy Perry, Madonna, Britney Spears, and a slew of other pop stars could learn a thing or two about being a performaner AND a musician at the same time from KISS, AC/DC and a number of other artists over the years that put on a show for their fans AND don't fake their bullshit on stage.

Took alittle digging, I could have found plenty of these if they all weren't taken off of youtube due to copy right but I have proof Rihanna lip-syncs

I'll also update with a video of Madonna Lip-Syncing when I get my internet to work right.

And for the record, I am not going to rip on artists that lipsync on stage on a TV show because there is only so much you can do with gear, space, etc... especially for a rock band. I've seen MANY artists, both rock and pop, who lipsync on TV. NOt all do, but many have.

I do excuse that (maybe that makes me a hypocrite), but I also am not expected to pay $100-300 for a ticket to watch them lipsync on TV. When I go to a stadium or arena, I (personally) want to see them do what they are paid to do, which is perform. For me, that means to give 100% in both a stage show as wel as actually performing (vocals, instruments, etc)... and not faking their way through it.

Yes those artists are known to lip synch. Anyone hear Paul these days from any recent live gig?? He sounds shredded, but giving it his all anyway.
