Here's a question for you all. When you are enjoying a brand new album by a band you love, do the music video releases also factor in to your enjoyment??

Back in my day... ( :heheh: ) the videos were very much part and parcel of new album hype. During my teenage years, the videos to What's The Frequency Kenneth, Crush With Eyeliner, Bang & Blame etc. were very much a part of my excitement for REM's Monster in 1994. Similarly, the videos from Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness played a big part in tempting me to buy the album. Yes I used to get the albums a little late after seeing how many videos and songs I liked from it. :D

In 2014, do videos matter to you at all?

Nowadays I actually watch the videos after I listen to the albums! :heheh: I like videos but they don't make me want to sit through something i don't like so they don't make me like a song more than I do. they are just an extra perk if I do like a song. :grinthumb

I'm not sure music videos ever played a role in my enjoyment of music, but they did play a part in discovering new music, back when MTV was worth watching. These days, I rarely watch any videos and if I do, it's usually AFTER I have bought an album and more than often live videos rather than official music videos.

I generally don't watch music videos. I'm a very literal, very lyrical person and I often find the myriad of non-sequitur images music videos usually string together to have nothing to do with the actual song.

There are a handful of music videos I love but for most the most part I just don't watch them. Even for most of my favorite artists, I've never even seen their videos. I'm also not a big fan of concert videos. I prefer to listen to live albums. I just like to be in my head with the music, the visuals aren't my thing.

For me the Pop/Rock video was a late '80s/early '90s thing. At that time many of the pubs and bars had video jukeboxes which I thought were great at the time. But these days I hate watching a video when I know the artist is miming. So the only ones I like to watch are live performances.

Not at all. Very rarely have I found a video that has convinced me to buy an album (only one I can think of is REM's Losing My Religion) Enjoy a live performance but for me the joy of music is listening to and appreciating it.

No, I pay no attention to music video releases whatsoever and I can't say I've ever seen a video which has made me want to go out and buy the album.

I enjoy watching videos of my favourite artists in concert, but never watch music videos - I prefer to make my own interpretation as to the meaning of a song rather than being guided along by the imagery of the video, and I nearly always prefer the images that come into my mind whatever the director or artist comes up with.

For me no. But some videos have made me either chuckle or actually get the kind of kick the artist was going for. On the other hand, there have been some truly cringeworthy videos sometimes from groups you least expected to do a crap video.

I think a lot of times music videos distract people from actively listening to the music.

Especially a lot of the new age of music videos.
