I'm gonna get rocks thrown at me ,but.....he was a solid guitarist but nothing special about his songwriting. His solo lps were mediocre imho. One of those things that happen in the world of entertainment where someone becomes big overnight even though they aren't really all that interesting.
I still think his best/most interesting work was with Marriott and Humble Pie.
