Now the bone is that I'm frugal and retired. So I have to be considerate of my wife flipping the bill so I keep things to a "USED" condition and minimal amount of dough to add to my ever growing new mancave..
She knows I love music and is always willing to buy what ever I want. (Spoiled shit I am). So I still keep the new toy spending as low and if needed as I can..

Last night I asked her the question of why do some people have such a desire to live a lifetime with music endowed in us?? It's like you love it so much you know it's a addiction.

In my case, Music is my life force. It is a urge that I cannot satisfy. It is apart of my DNA and without it, I wither into a state of solitude.

My thoughts are, where will all my toys go when I'm gone?? The mass amount of stuff I have and my collection would be something of awe in the hands of someone like me who would enjoy, HOURS of listening pleasure..
A lifetime of my moments like a book written by me exist in the confines of a lonely blue room where my personality shines in every corner.. $$$$ Is it worth the money spent??
Love the practicality of this post. My wife and I came to an agreement many years ago. I pretty much had everything I needed. If we needed something for the house, we bought it. I just said that I'm going to be buying CDs so instead of trying to find something for me that I don't really need for holidays and special occasions, just get me a record store GC or Amazon cards. If there's a new release that I need right away, I'll buy straight out, but it didn't make sense for me for my wife to buy me gifts AND I was still buying CDs.

As far as the mass amount of stuff, I was kind of talking about it in the Spotify thread. What do I do with it all? We're a few years from downsizing, though, but that day is coming.

I also started with 8 tracks, Columbia House, etc..I turned 10 in 1978, so the moment I heard Kiss Alive II, my fate was sealed. Used my paper route money on tapes. Hustled at the arcade to buy tapes. Concerts, t shirts...music has been so important to me. Music has been my accompaniment on my life's journey, both inner and outer.

Investing in music for me is like way more than just a hobby. It’s emotional fuel, man – you listen to a track, and sudenly you’re back in those moments that really mattered. You feel those memories, people, places...it’s wild.Honestly, without music, I think I'd lose it.

And yeah, a lot of people here say the same – without music, it like the part of my soul is missing.Collecting records, going to shows – it’s not just a passion, it’s part of who we are:).

That is the truth of it. For some, music is like religion. We value the words and even live our lives to their meanings and sentiment. We idolize the artists like deities. We try to spread the word and energy of these deities and bring others together in unity.

When I was quite young, maybe 10, I started paying more attention to the radio, I got my mother ABBA Arrival for Xmas one year and ended up listening to it constantly, drawn more to the songs that had just a hint more rock in them, particularly I Am The Tiger.

Eventually I heard Ace Frehley’s cover of New York Groove and that was it. Bought the single and immediately played the B side “Snowblind”. My mind was blown and I had to have the album, then I had to have a Kiss album, Double Platinum being the first. From there the flood gates opened. I bought every Kiss album, then Cheap Trick, Queen, Alice, Styx all followed.

My taste, though primarily heavy rock based, expanded to Floyd, The Clash, Billy Joel then onto Sabbath, Maiden, Ac/Dc, Bowie, Zep Duran Duran, The Who etc.

Eventually my vinyl collection was around 350 and I was in bands myself, then shit came crashing down and I had to sell my collection to keep a roof over my head.

For years I had hardly anything then in the 90’s I managed a music store and built up a huge collection of CDs.

Fate kicked my ass again and I had to sell to survive.

Over the last 15 years I’ve rebuilt the CD collection to over 500 and in the past three years I’ve rediscovered Vinyl, now sitting on 400 plus LPs.

Why? A passion for the emotion of lyrics, the power of great music, musicianship and performance. Music is also is virtually the only way I remember parts of my life. It truly is the soundtrack to my time on earth and for me the 60’s - 90’s was the era of innovation, having worked in both second hand and new music stores I have seen new artists come and go but the power and spirit of the early days is what survives and will always own my soul!
