^ A lot of Nolob's albums are metal....not that they're anything wrong with that...I'm talking just good old rock and roll....

to me there's a big difference between rock and roll and metal.

It's going to be pretty easy to make your point, if you eliminate everything that isn't just like it was in 1968.

I think the truth is that rock isn't the popular medium it was in 1968 but whether or not there were 50 good rock albums in 2008 is entirely in the ear of the beholder.

If I did a list like this for 2008, it'd undoubtedly have a lot of garage and punk rock on it. You probably wouldn't like that list either, even though those genres are most certainly rock and roll and most of the albums would probably be made by 20-somethings and not a bunch of hanger-on-ers.

Rock and roll isn't dead. Wounded sure. But if I can find plenty of it that I like at this late date, then surely you can too.

Groovy, I took the time to make a list of "Rock" bands. Bands that I find interesting and worth listening to. I have the list saved, and I am not going to post the list for a couple reasons.........

1) First off, you have stated exactly what I expected you to say when someone did post a list, what you feel and honestly believe is your own truth........."Rock is Dead"

2) You started this thread simply to state that opinion, and I personally went to a lot of trouble making my list to have you diss it without even asking about some of the bands you may not know.

3) For the record, as I was going through my albums by date, I found MORE than 50 albums to pick through, therefore, I think I will reserve my list for my own journal :D

No, I haven't heard everyone of those bands, but no offence, I know it's a lot of it's over polished pop melodic clone rock, almost hair glam metal with no edge....that basically sounds all the same. (not all of them, like AC/DC and Uriah Heep, etc)

Pretty amazing how you can not hear something and yet already know what it is. I'm impressed.

And I think European Rock is rehashed music, in my opinion. Checked some of it out. It does nothing for me.

Why does this not surprise me?

The music you listed, has left no mark on the modern music world what so ever....so, that tells me, it isn't that good, because the cream always rises to the top.

This comment in particular is ludacris. We are talking about music that is only 3 years old, not 43 years old. It hasn't had time to be judged for it's long term relevance.

You gotta know, I've been hanging around rock forums, sampling music online for 11 years now and have experienced a lot of different types of bands you like. So, please don't tell me I don't know music. And I don't hate everything that isn't from the ''classic rock'' era. Truth be told, I'm dying to hear an excellent new rock band.

I never said you don't know music. And if you really want to hear an excellent new rock band then all you have to do is listen to Black Stone Cherry or Black Country Communion as a couple of examples.

Now, you claim, you heard all my albums, but if you honestly believe your 2008 list is better than my 1968 list, more power to ya, but you couldn't be too much of a classic rock fan, in my book . But that doesn't make you a bad person. It's only music.

Again, I didn't say it was better nor did I say it was worse. What it is, is a list of 50 very good albums from 2008. That is what you asked for so that is what you got. Rock is VERY alive and healthy... no not 60's rock but in this case the 2008 model. You might wanna take it for a test drive.

Anyway, I'd like to put your list against mine in a poll....

And see which one wins - just out of curiosity.

Around this forum, it will probably close - I wouldn't be surprised at all.

Do whatever you want. It is obviously very important to you that you somehow "prove" that your list is superior to anyone else's. Whatever...

There were only a few great albums from the 60's. The 80's had some great ones that were more metal. The 90's were blah for me. Newer rock is ok. Give me some 70's rock anyday!

Honeymoon Suite - Clifton Hill

I used to hang out on Clifton Hill when I was a teenie bopper. :D

I didn't think I could name one album released in 2008 until I saw your list. I think there are two or three there I've heard.

I would like to add 5 that are my personal favourites of 2008:

1.- Coldplay - Viva La Vida
2.- The Killers - Day And Age
3.- Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
4.- Kings Of Leon - Only By The Night
5.- MGMT - Oracular Spectacular

And maybe '68 was a better year for rock music than '08. But that doesn't mean rock is dead. I think '67 was better than '68 and according to the logic of the guy who created the thread, rock music would have been rotten by then already. As someone said, now most of the good albums (or at least what critics think is good) are indie rock, and you can catch a lot of good releases there. If you haven't heard some indie rock, european music or metal music, it doesn't mean it sucks, it may mean you just don't like, or you haven't given it a chance.

I'll admit that I don't like 80% of what's been released in the last 20 years, but I don't think rock is dead. It's just different and not as good as the stuff that came out in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Just my opinion though. I respect what others think about the quality of today's music.

And something else. When music is new, sometimes people don't get it and dont like it. They dismiss it immeadiately. They are kinda nostalgic and believe that everything is better in the past. People thought that Elvis was Satan's messenger or something. Americans didn't like The Beatles in the beggining because they couldn't dance to that music. Bob Dylan was being called Judas. The Velvet Underground didn't sell many albums because the music was "too weird". Punk music was hated in the beggining because everyone was into prog rock and things more complex. Grunge was hated because it was so loud and depressing. But when you look back, all those genres had some very great albums. When certain eras end, you get to realize what is over and what you missed.
