Here's a list of 50 albums that I own from the rock year 1968....

My challenge is to the all the ''modern rock'' fans in this forum, who claim rock is still alive and well in the 21 century. (And I'm living under a rock, stuck in the past, musically) It's time to back it up.

Lets see your list of 50 rock albums that came out in 2008....

Basically, I wanna see if anyone anyone can top my list :D...

or to see if anyone can name 50 good rock albums of 2008...

If you want to add other genres of music, besides rock, go ahead, that's ok...but it only proves my point of modern rock music being pretty much lame or dying a slow death. (Sure, there a few new bands still rockin' the people, but over all on the grand scale , rock is lame nowadays., barely breathing and on life support)

*** BTW, This is all in fun...I'm just trying to prove my point, but If you're somehow offended or annoyed by this challenge, please do not participate or comment. This thread is for only rock music fans who think they can top the rock year of 1968. Thank You. :)

If all go well....we can do another rock year challenge, like 1975 vs. 2005, or 1971 vs. 2001

Re: A Challange for 21 Century Rockers!

But is it an effort in futility? Someone can post a list of 50 albums that they like as much as the classic albums you listed, but wouldn't you just say that the modern albums aren't as good in your opinion? Or are you only trying to see if anyone actually likes modern rock as much as classic rock? I'm ASKING, not accusing of anything. In any case I'm not sure whether anyone around here has said modern rock can match ultimate years like 1968 and 1971. Maybe 1978 or 1981. Modern rock can still be viciously thriving without necessarily being the best year in the complete history of rock.

Anyhoo... I'd love to participate, I don't think it's offensive or anything, sounds fun. But I don't really listen to modern rock. I'd be happy to post 50 pop albums from the 00s/10s that I like more than every record you posted, though. But that'd be fiendishly off-topic. :) I'm not a year-by-year guy, personally. There isn't any year that has more than a couple handfuls of albums I like.

Re: A Challange for 21 Century Rockers!

But is it an effort in futility?

Nope...I'm just seeing if anyone can honestly come up with a list of good 50 albums that could top the quality of my list.

I'm tired of people saying modern music is good...or better...of just as the same as in the classic rock era of the 60's and 70's...and you can even add the 80's and 90's into too.

I think a lot of people get cranky pants :heheh: when they hear ''modern music'' doesn't come close to classic rock and roll.

I don't really listen to modern rock. I'd be happy to post 50 pop albums from the 00s/10s that I like more than every record you posted, though.

Well....that kind of proves my point of modern rock of the last decade being lame.

If you think you could come up with 50 albums, you honestly think are better than my list...go ahead and post them....maybe someone will agree with you :)....but it has to be albums from 2008 and 50 albums....not 10 or 20 albums....

It's 1968 classic rock vs. 2008 modern rock....

My point is classic rock blows away modern rock in quantity and quality...

yet, some people strongly disagree....so, I wanna see some kind of proof, that they seriously believe what they claim....

I think rock is dead myself....and if not, it's on life support and near death.

And I see no proof rock music is in a healthy state.

Personally, I believe most everyone here believes ''rock is dead'', compared to the way it was back in the 60's and 70's, where great albums were coming out weekly, but don't want to face the fact - the glory days of rock are over - and they rock music of today is like a B-flick, straight to video movie....low quality on the grand scale....that no one gives a rat's ass about!

Anyhow...it's just harmless conversation.

:cheers2

or worthless boring ramblings by me....

:oyea:

Re: A Challange for 21 Century Rockers!

The fact that me and you don't like modern rock doesn't mean that rock is dead, though. Indie rock is the biggest form of rock right now so there's gotta be pretty interesting stuff going on in the rock realm. It's just not particularly to my fancy atm.

There a lot of albums on your list that I'd rank as good, but that's pretty much just because classic rock is ingrained in my blood. There's barely a few albums on there that I would actually rank among the all-time best. Personally. *shrug* Though '69 or '71 would fare much better with me personally.

Also I think you listed Ten Years After twice, fyi... I only noticed cuz I love TYA. xD

OK Groovy... I'll list my 50 but first let me say this...

I'm 54. I grew up listening to everything on your list... not one single album there I have not heard. Some are indeed classics. Some not so much at all, but at least I have heard them.

As for my list, I'll bet the mortgage that you haven't even heard OF half of them, much less listened to them so don't come back at me saying they all suck or that rock is dead. Radio is what is dead in the U.S. so unless you go out of your way to find all the great music that is coming out of mostly Europe you are never gonna hear it.

Journey - Revelation
Whitesnake - Good To Be Bad
Brother Firetribe - Heart Full Of Fire
H.E.A.T. - H.E.A.T.
House Of Lords - Come To My Kingdom
Work Of Art - Artwork
Eclipse - Are You Ready To Rock
AC/DC - Black Ice
Eden's Curse - Second Coming
It Bites - The Tall Ships
Leverage - Blind Fire
From The Inside - Visions
Uriah Heep - Wake The Sleeper
Jorn - Lonely Are The Brave
Shadowman - Ghost In The Mirror
Lukather, Steve - Forever Changing Times
Buckcherry - Black Butterfly
Starbreaker - Love's Dying Wish
Jeff Scott Soto - Beautiful Mess
Khymera - The Greatest Wonder
Poley/Rivera - Only Human
Robert Berry - The Dividing Line
Amon Amarth -Twilight Of The Thunder God
Driver - Sons Of Thunder
Extreme - Saudades De Rock
Black Stone Cherry - Folklore And Superstition
Crown Of Thorns - Faith
Airbourne - Running Wild
Talon - Fallen Angels
Overland - Break Away
Kip Winger - From The Moon To The Sun
M.ill.ion - Thrill Of The Chase
Rev Theory - Light It Up
Harem Scarem - Hope
Alliance - Road To Heaven
Shinedown - Sound Of Madness
Tesla - Forever More
Thunder - Bang!
Firewind - The Premonition
Jimi Jamison - Crossroads Moment
Frozen Rain - Frozen Rain
Asia - Phoenix
Marcello-Vestry - Marcello-Vestry
Catley, Bob - Immortal
Ramos/Hugo - The Dream
Anberlin - New Surrender
Honeymoon Suite - Clifton Hill
Last Autumn's Dream - Hunting Shadows
Lost Weekend - Fear And Innocence
Hope - All Of My Days
Elevener - When Kaleidoscopes Collide

I'm not exactly sure why the criteria calls for from 2008. There are plenty of great albums from years after that as well, especially recently. I can give it a go when I have some time to look deeper into it. But the criteria just seems very odd to me.

I have no idea why 2008 either but that's what he asked for so that's what I gave him. I could do a 50 list from any year he wants. :D

Same philosophy here Tunez! I'm a huge Anberlin fan though. That particular album isn't my favorite but it seems to be the one that pulled part of the audience in due to it being a major label release and getting promoted more. If you haven't heard the rest of their catalog I have a pretty epic thread for them around here! :grinthumb
