    Happy Birthday Roger Glover

75 today. As a bonafide "Purplehead" I really appreciated the last time I saw them at the Orphium Theatre in Boston (my 8th Purple show). I had 4th row seats on Glover's side and the bass was very loud and very clear. But what really stood out was how much of a lead player he is. Truly lead...

    Musicians & Middle Finger

There's a million pics of rock stars flipping off... whoever. So why not? I'll start it off with the late, great Tommy Bolin.

Better song not on its respected titled album.

Sheer Heart Attack is on News Of The World and Houses Of The Holy Is On Physical Graffiti, go figure.

    HOLD ON

Popular song title in the world of classic rock.

    BRAINBOX

Don't know if this band has ever been discussed on here. It's Jan Akkerman's band before FOCUS. I got into them and noticed the song Down Man in the movie Logan Lucky. In hindsight Holland has put out some really good rock music.

    Mos Generator

Saw these guys open for Fu Manchu and was blown away. Awesome trio with a heavy classic rock sound.

    Acoustic tremolo

A guitar player buddy of mine developed and patented this and is working on some deals for endorsement and mass production. I think it's genius. Can't believe this hasn't been introduced before. I don't play much acoustic but can see where this would be a cool option especially for country...

    I was at that show!

Ever been to a show that was recorded for a live album or video? I was at this show recorded at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach.

Triumph : Suitcase Blues / The Police: Man In A Suitcase

Two very different songs by two very different bands. Both trios though. NpbGniOEVY8 5vgK1scqR-8 I put the same title for both bands in the poll.:bonk: Anyone feel free to edit that. I can't seem to.

    Improvise, adapt, overcome

I just cut up a plastic milk carton cuz I can't find a pick. I've used coins as well (prefer quarters or an old deutsch mark). Any other gee-tar players out there ever had to fabricate a picking device. (God forbid I should use my fingers).

    Montrose's Space Station #5 / Aerosmith's Spaced

These two songs are a year apart ('73 & '74 respectively) and very similar in theme (In a nutshell: Earth uninhabitable - humanity escapes to space). Had Montrose's debut and Get Your Wings in the car and had epiphany when they played back to back on random. s6BTTJo1KmM pG0rP44yfpw

Ian Gillan Band and Gillan (Official Thread)

Ian Gillan's post Purple bands (Ian Gillan Band and Gillan) were all pretty successful in Europe. Sadly, we here in the states missed out. IGB were almost fusion with a lot of jazz leanings where Gillan were metal. This is some footage of a great late 70's metal band that probably didn't...

    E7#9

I think this one of the coolest most useful chords. Once I learned it I noticed it everywhere. Also known as the Jimi Hendrix chord as it’s the main chord in Purple Haze. It’s used after the pentatonic riff in The James Gang’s Funk #49. And that’s one of the best things about it. It’s great as a...

    Happy Birthday Steve Morse

The Dregs/Deep Purple maestro turns 55 today. Met him twice. San Antonio 2004 w/ DP and got a pic. Saw him two yrs. later in Myrtle Beach @ HoB w/ The Dregs and Steve Morse Band (he opened for himself!) and got it signed. Very friendly. At the end of the show he jumped off the stage and started...

    Shuggie Otis

Recently started getting into him. Was going to post in the blues section but he's more than a blues player. Great blues, funk player and multi-insturmentalist. Came up in the late '60's and can best be described as psychedelic soul. Should have been bigger.

    The White Stripes

I can't help it. I like The White Stripes. I dig how they strip music down to the bare essentials. They pull it off live brilliantly also. Jack White comes up with some really cool riffs. I just think he takes himself a little too seriously for the type of music they play. What do you all think?

    Is Nu-Metal dead?

I never got into it but it was popular with Limp Bizkit, Korn and others. I've kind of taken an interest lately 'cause I hooked up with a couple rapper friends recently and one has a home studio. I recorded some riffs and melodies for him and was amazed with what he did with them. Other than...

    Covers vs. originals

I usually prefer originals but I can think of a few covers that I actually like better. Absolutely love MollyHatchet's version of The Allman's Dreams. Van Halen obviously did The Kink's You Really Got Me justice as well as Where Have All The Good Times Gone. The Jeff Beck Group does a...
