Shuggie Otis

Recently started getting into him. Was going to post in the blues section but he's more than a blues player. Great blues, funk player and multi-insturmentalist. Came up in the late '60's and can best be described as psychedelic soul. Should have been bigger.

 

Video didn't work...sorry. Look up Shuggie playing with Al Kooper and Mike Bloomfield.

 

Hmmmmmm. Psychedelic soul is just my thing. I'll be looking into Shuggie's recordings within the week!

Shuggie did a track called Taildragger which is on a guitar legends album, does anyone know if it features on any of his albums ?

 

I did a quick look at his discography and don't see that song anywhere Sox, not even on his compilation albums...

 

Thanks LG I have searched as well and can't find it. Guess it must have been a one off for the compilation or a live take.

 

I think you are spot on Sox...wouldn't be the first time a great song was not on the regular studio albums.

I was really surprised he was the author of Strawberry Letter 23,,,I have two Brothers Johnson albums and always Assumed it was their song...

 

I didn't know that either LG but I am aware that in the higher archy Shuggie is respected. I was reading that Ritchie Blackmore had a phase were he devoted a lot of time listening to Shuggie.

 

Yup. That's what sparked my interest!
