Same here. I don't deviate too much from Rock music in general as I just can’t appreciate most R&B/Rap/Club music, but I do listen to anything from pop rock to death metal. I don't understand how some people can only stick to one form of music. I know a dude who will not listen to music if it isn't death metal...wont even attempt to listen to see if he likes it

I hate all new music. (with a few exceptions).

I tried to wax poetic like most of the posts on this thread but when I really stopped and thought about it, I suppose more or less I would hafta agree with you. It's been about 8 years since I bought a new release by anybody, and that was by Joe Satriani, who's been around since the mid 80's.

I am open to new music, but not new releases. New to me, as in some band I just discovered from the 60's or 70's. Like 3 years ago, I discovered 60's Deep Purple and Cream (the songs that I hadnt heard 10,000 times on the radio). So I am open to that type of stuff.

I don't hate new music. Well, there are some I do.

Mostly, I don't have any sort of feeling towards new music.

To me, if music doesn't stir something, then it's just benign. It's there, but it doesn't have any effect on me.

The bulk of my collection blues-rock, hard-rock, heavy-metal is from '68 to '88 but there is plenty of gear before and after that I listen to and newer bands like Gentlemans Pistols, Graveyard, Electric Mary, Rival Sons and Black Spiders have really grabbed my attention. So I don't think I'm all that set in my ways, what ever catches my ear really but I do like a harder edge to my music.

For me it's almost the same as with Sox. I prefer the harder edge and the best music I think was made between 67 and 77.

Went through a period in the late 80's early 90's where I ignored contemporary music almost completely, but collected a massive amount of classical during that interval.:mn:

SK, I agree with your comments about Grunge, there are a handful of bands that I do like from then, I've caught up thanks to music forums, but most of them I find forgettable.

The labeling by the distribution companies I find laughable though, indie, alternative etc...those are marketing ploys more than anything else and I won't change my opinion.

However there are a large number of Metal bands that I discovered a few years back that jump started my interest in collecting again, mostly Power/Prog/Heavy metal bands with a predominantly European flavor.

I would consider myself extremely flexible in my music tastes.

Ofcourse, there are genre's of music I am not fond of......like Punk. I never could wrap my head and ears around all that controversy and noise.

Another type of music that makes me cringe is Death Growls.......which are usually overdone. A little can go a long way with me. If I want to hear cookie monster, I will watch Sesame Street, atleast I can understand what he is saying ;)

I try to keep an open mind when listening to music. I will listen to something several times, unless it is god awful, before I make a final decision whether to keep it or dump it.

I'm pretty open to music but death metal(or screaming metal) not interested. Also I've become less fond of over played classic rock. I'll listen to it but lots of it does nothing for me anymore. Also not fond of rap with no instruments although some of it is okay. Besides that I'm always looking for something new and interesting especially if its mixing several old genres.
