I was going to bring up Rory's jazzy songs myself but obviously it has already been addressed at this point. I do want to point out that just because someone chooses to incorporate elements into their playing style, funk for instance, that others may choose not to incorporate into their own playing style, that does not necessarily make them a better, more talented or more proficient player.

The 'alleged' quote by HENDRIX being asked "Whats it like being the greatest guitarist in the world?" and Jimi saying "I dunno you better ask RORY GALLAGHER?" is a made up quote from someone either from the Official Rory Gallagher forum or someone who was closer to Rory?.

I've been a 'serious' HENDRIX fan/collector for over 30 years and have read all the books published on Jimi in that time and only recently come across this alleged quote that Jimi was suppose to have made when i went on the Official Rory Gallagher forum

Good to know. I am still searching out the orgins of the quote, false or not. :cheers2

I've heard that before too, but it's only been fairly recent. Although I'll admit I'm hardly an expert on all things Jimi, so there's plenty that has gotten past me over the years.

I thought it was an odd quote the first time I heard it and shrugged it off. When I read it again somewhere else (may even have been here), I did some searching and it sounds like an urban legend sort of thing. No proof one way or the other if he said that or not (that i can find).

snopes.com: Phil Keaggy Greatest Guitarist?

The above link has very similar wording, and it appears that any guitarist's name could have been inserted.

The original source that I saw quoted was a Rolling Stone magazine article/interview, so until I see that article, I say it's a myth.

"Middle Name" is my favorite from "Fresh Evidence". It has such a great solo and overall groove. :grinthumb

:grinthumb Hi to all the Rory fan's on here :)

Firstly when FRESH EVIDENCE was first released here in the UK in April 1990 i didn't like it that much BUT strangely i can honestly say that it's become MY FAVOURITE album of his, every track is a 'classic' also this album had a different cover with a slightly older picture of Rory on the front, he looked ok to me i don't know why they had to replace it with a picture of Rory circa 1973?. (I know that he had put a bit of weight on by the late 1980s/1990s but he looked ok)

As for 'the quote' i personally believe that is either made up by someone close to Rory or like has been said Hendrix may have been talking about another guitarist and someone has changed it to Rory Gallagher?.

The quote "Whats it like being the worlds greatest guitarist?" Hendrix "I dunno you better ask Rory Gallagher"

It's such a cool quote that even if it was made up it's brilliant!! :grinthumb

I only wonder what was the point of releasing an alternate album covers on CD reissues.

For what it's worth...

about the Jimi/Rory/Keaggy conversation, above....

I've always heard/read that Hendrix though Billy Gibbons, Eric Clapton and Phil Keaggy to be the best guitarist Jimi ever heard...but, who knows? (or does it really matter?)

One thing I will say about Phil Keaggy, the guy invented stuff, the other guitarists borrowed...like playing guitar, while your pinky finger turn up and down the volume for one of his trademark sound. I don't know if Phil Keaggy is the best - but his work with Glass Harp was pretty damn excellent. And even after that...Keaggy's always been a ''guitar great''.
