If it were me DK I would have a look at the stuff he did with Taste and then his solo ST debut to kick off with.

I picked up a couple of Rory Gallagher DVD's lately and both are really awesome. Gonna look into picking up some of his CDs soon and looking for some suggestions on where to begin.

Anyone ?

My personal favorite thus far is Tattoo but I'm no Rory expert yet so don't take my word for it. I have three of his albums (Tattoo, Calling Card, Deuce) and all three are among my favorite purchases this year. :grinthumb

^^^ Three pearlers there ILJP, to be honest you can't really go wrong with any of his solo releases between 1971/1990 or the first three live albums IMO.

I listened to the whole Gallagher's discography (those albums, when he was alive) and believe me, DKW, it is difficult to say which album is the best. Calling Card though is my favourite and might be a good starting point, adding the fact Roger Glover was the producer at the time.

''Tattoo'', ''Calling Card'' and ''Irish Tour '74''

You can't go wrong with these 3 albums...first two are studio albums.

Thanks Sox, ILJP, Nolob and Groovy.

I have a lot to look into it seems but that is a good thing. I had thought about checking out Taste first originally as I like to start at the beginning if feasible so I will stick with that idea but plan to check out all the recommended releases.

Thanks again. :grinthumb

Riding on the coat tails of DKW's post, but thanks from me as well.

I recently read a quote that got me interested in Mr. Gallagher's work. I am still tracking down the validitity of the quote, but regardless, I like everything I have heard so far. :grinthumb

"How does it feel to be the greatest guitarist in the world? I don't know, go ask Rory Gallagher." —Jimi Hendrix quote from Rolling Stone magazine interview.

That really interesting. I know Jimi was a big fan of Billy Gibbons as well as Leslie West and didn't realize he rated Rory so high which is certainly one helluva compliment coming from him.

Glad I was able to contribute to your Rory Gallagher addiction Wolf :D. Though like our more knowledgable members pointed out, you really can't go wrong with any of his stuff.

I have the following and would recommend any of them :

Taste

Taste
On The Boards
Tasty Livin'

Solo

Rory Gallagher
Deuce
Blueprint
Tattoo
Against the Grain
Photo-Finish
Live In Europe
Calling Card
Jinx

Another CD I would recommend if you don't have it already is the "The London Muddy Waters Sessions" which Rory plays on. Also the Irish Tour 74 DVD is a must have.
