I figure it's a good place to start. I really like alot of the stuff off of Calling Card as played live on my DVDs so I started my venture into the studio solo material there. I have a feeling I'm going to be buying a lot more of Rory's stuff down the line though.

Great video :grinthumb

:grinthumb I think you could be right DK but it's money well spent IMO. Yeah Calling Card is a great album, good choice. I was watching the Irish Tour '74 dvd not long back and still can't get over how humble the guy was.

The 'alleged' quote by HENDRIX being asked "Whats it like being the greatest guitarist in the world?" and Jimi saying "I dunno you better ask RORY GALLAGHER?" is a made up quote from someone either from the Official Rory Gallagher forum or someone who was closer to Rory?.

I've been a 'serious' HENDRIX fan/collector for over 30 years and have read all the books published on Jimi in that time and only recently come across this alleged quote that Jimi was suppose to have made when i went on the Official Rory Gallagher forum

RORY GALLAGHER was good theres no doubt about that BUT there was no serious comparison with JIMI HENDRIX in reality other then they were both 'virtuoso musicians' and i've been a fan of Rory's for the last 25 years.

Jimi was a 'master musician' and was adept in playing in various styles which included ROCK/BLUES/SOUL/FUNK/FREE-FORM JAZZ and even sitting-in accompanying on guitar on an early version of a RAP song with the 'Last Poets', plus Jimi's music was reaching the far extreme boundaries where ROCK/FUNK & JAZZ blur and merge together by the time of his death in 1970.

Rory on the other hand was a great electric BLUES/ROCK guitarist/musician who also played great 'bottleneck' when he needed to and also accoustic country blues as well but there was no serious comparion between the two guitarist's in reality although Jimi being Jimi would have recognised Rory's talent if asked i'm sure about that.

Sorry Rory Gallagher fan's x

^^ I think that supposed quote has been used before with other guitar players including Phil Keaggy, who was probably not even around as an established player at the time of Jimi's death. If Jimi did make the comment about Rory I am guessing it would be simply a way of giving a nod to Rory's incredible talent.
I do think there are more facets to Rory's playing however, he could add a jazz twist or create a celtic spin to his music. IMO Rory was certainly not limited to just playing blues rock or country blues, he chose his own path in an ever changing, harsh business environment. I agree with EZ .. I think Jimi would have recognised the talent.

Yes you are correct SOX i omitted referring to Rory's Jazz style of playing when he wanted to examples found on the TASTE album ON THE BOARDS and on his solo albums on tracks like LIVIN LIKE A TRUCKER & CALLING CARD :)
