Thank you Eberg, that is the gist of what I was going to say. I am one of those people who met Alice and he was one of the nicest guys I've ever met.

Being a musician doesn't automatically secure Alice's opinions on music but after being in the music business for over 40 years and proving that he knows what he's talking about at any given time I'd say that he holds some credibility. Though credibility doesn't really matter when it comes to one's own opinion.

When he's not on stage, he's the same as the rest of us anyways.. My name tag says Mcdonald's.. his says "badass rock n roll god".. the only difference:D

AAG.. not only was that uncalled for.. have you ever heard or read anything about or from Alice.. he's a very intelligent, laid back guy.. There are even a few folks on here that met him and said he was incredibly knowledgeable... Most of those are classic time tested, great songs.... These songs have made members' lists on here, and are they laughable?.. Or are you just ripping on him because he is Alice Cooper.. he's a human being, just like you....:hm:

It's got nothing to do with who he is. I like his music, I even used to listen to his radio show. I expected him to put together a good list. And then... I saw his list. :wtf:

They're fine songs. I feel I've already explained why the list is laughable. The funniest thing about it is the fact that Jet's breakout track is the only track from the last 20 years. What's funny about that is it's a track that has nothing to do with the 00s... it could have been released in 1990 and even then it would have vehemently been a "retro-rock" song. I think it's funny that he doesn't seem to particularly appreciate any music styles from the last 20 years. Maybe there's some stuff hidden lower on his list, but from what I remember of his radio show the only 90s/00s stuff you're going to hear is retro-rock. The next funny thing about it is how after his youth, all these tracks are among the biggest songs these bands ever did. One can only speculate so far, but it indicates he MAY not be digging as deeply into these bands. I find it funny that someone I admire as a musician has pretty pedestrian music taste. They're all good songs: it's how limited it is which makes it funny. I would have expected more variety on his list. *shrug*

Am I not allowed to have an opinion on his list? Seems like that's what this board is about... If y'all disagree with my assessment you're more than welcome to reassess the list and post about it. If somebody posted Slipknot's top 10 tracks and it was nothing but groove metal, nobody'd laugh? Nobody'd say anything negative against poor ole' Slipknot?

And from what I've read or who I've talked to, most musicians don't listen to their own tunes after they are done recording it.. they are too sick of it to listen to it..

That's not what I was referring to, although I understand how it could seem that way. A lot of musicians only spend time on their music -- writing, recording -- and then when they go home they don't even listen to much music at all. Can't say I know Alice's personal schedule or anything, but just because somebody's famous doesn't mean they're listening to anything that we aren't.

I met Alice Cooper and it was a VIP meeting...he knows his stuff. He even mentioned that when the crowd goes nuts for Killer (a song he played the night we met him) he could tell real die hard fans from casual listeners then when the hits are played.

Alice's influences and love stems from Zappa to Iggy & The Stooges to the Beatles.

As far as the Jet song?? yeah there is a alot of Alice in that song....kinda School's Out era...so why wouldn't he like it??

You mean he's familiar with his own music? That changes my perception of what he listens to.

From classic rock to classic rock? What a startling dichotomy.

My question isn't why he likes that song. It's why he doesn't appear to like anything from the 90s and 00s that doesn't try to sound like it's from the 70s or 60s. *shrug*

I know I'm being a bitch here but come on... this whole topic is too funny for me not to joke around with. If you wanna chalk it up to male pms, be my guest.

I think that is a good set of songs Cosmic, and it does reflect a wide range of different styles. Just like Alice himself is like a chameleon from soft ballads to all out beastly metal anthems and pretty much everything in between.

I respect the fact anyone can actually pick ten songs as their faves, I would never be able to do that.:nw:

Dude what's your problem and the sarcasm?? ?? Don't break down my posts line by line. :wtf:

I didn't ask to be analyzed. If you're cranky then fine...but I don't believe a silly top 10 list is all Alice is capable of liking or listening to.

Cosmic Harmony, what was your source for this information??

Well apparently Alice originally listed these songs on a BBC radio program but I first heard him list it on his own radio show.

My question isn't why he likes that song. It's why he doesn't appear to like anything from the 90s and 00s that doesn't try to sound like it's from the 70s or 60s. *shrug*

Well just going from the http://www.classicrockforums.com/forum/f4/worst-musical-decade-9341/ thread you yourself criticized the 2000's for their music so pardon me for failing to see how you in all fairness can go after Alice for only having one song from the 2000's in a list of ten.

I'm not cranky in the least. I'm making jokes because this is a hilarious topic.

Haha, I do hate the 00s. And yet it looks like I might listen to more 00s stuff in a day than Alice does in a year. The fact that he only has one 00s song isn't the funny part, it's that and the song choice that makes it funny. If he had just kept the 90s & 00s out of it then I wouldn't have anything funny to say -- If all he likes is classic rock & 80s music then that's all he likes. The funniest part is how he includes an 00s song that might as well have come out in 1987. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's cute and ironic.
