I said earlier I was going to comment but I changed my mind.
For me it's the synth pop, new wave, new romantic of the early 80's that dominated the charts. Artists like The Thompson Twins, Tears For Fear, Simple Minds, Pet Shop Boys, The Eurythmics, Culture Club, Men At Work, etc. Spineless, weak, pompous, bombastic, over produced programmed synthesizers compensating for feeble and deficient talent and musianship.
At least rap/hip-hop has some style with energy, vigour, and forcefulness expression. No question, some of it goes over the top. Doesn't certain artists go over the top in every genre(?).
its Tears for Fears not Tears for Fear.
Don't lump them in with those other bands they actually had plenty of talent.
