I am sorry, I didn't understand it in that context, I thought you were masking their anti semitism with anti multiculturalism.

Guys,

Lets not get upset with each other :)

I removed the extreme political content.

thank you.

I used to be a mod and dealt with neo nazi's trying to "spread the good word" and thought that was happening here, freaked out a little.

And the only reason I said that about the rules was because the OP's post looked like obvious flame bait from a common troll, I was trying to see if it was, but it looks like I took the bait because all that is happening now is drama involving me and the OP, in typical troll fashion, hasn't posted again.

I am going to slink away from this thread but imo it should be locked.

It's already been addressed but if everyone could maintain a certain level of civility and empathy for everyone else's opinions then that'd be very much appreciated.

Queen's Roger Taylor has had a new album waiting in the wings for sometime now and this is the title track to it. It was his response to the lack of protest songs in this day and age and is about his current sentiments towards his native UK as he sees it.

God would weep
if he existed
and he saw what man can do to man
He'd think that we were twisted

His unblinking eye would blink and then
He'd say not in my name you don't
you stupid little men
With your arrogance and ignorance
you do it time and time again

I must be getting old
There's a fire and a fury
driven deep into my soul
It's the helplessness that comes
from being under your control
And everything is broken

We got the High Street full of holes
The High Street's full of holes
High Street's full of holes

Five million cameras stare at us
They treat us like we're fools
Our privacy is meaningless
We're suffocating by ten thousand rules

This Kingdom's not united
Just a complicated mess
Are we in Europe
Half in Europe
Not in Europe
We're soulless, spineless, directionless

I must be getting old
There's a fire and a fury
driven deep into my soul
It's the helplessness that comes
from being under your control
And everything is broken
Stylophone!
And everything is broken

Why send our young men out to die
in wars that we don't understand
Why on earth should we be meddling
in places like Afghanistan

The price is much too high
in terms of money or our precious men
Your reasons are mysterious
and quite beyond ken

I must be getting old
There's a fire and a fury
driven deep into my soul
It's the helplessness that comes
You even sold our gold
And everything is broken

LOL, what???

Yeah, I'm a troll. But instead of trolling on the first post like all those other trolls, I thought I'd be different and make 80 normal posts first before showing my true colors.

I like it! The lyrics might be about his native UK but it could just as easily be about the States too.

And if that doesn't work...

In all seriousness, I've never shied away from a song or artist (music or any other form) because of their political views. If I like the song, I like the song, even if I may not exactly agree with the content.

I think the reason for this is because politics have never been of any interest to me. Left wing, right wing, liberals, conservatives, fascists, anarchists, extremists..hut hut HIKE. I don't have any leanings, so I guess that helps me be less constrictive.

It's one thing to put your beliefs, political or otherwise, in a song, or poem or painting. Whatever your medium, and you're free to express yourself.

However, I do have a bit of a problem with musicians going up on stage and railing against this or that or this person or that person because the artist's views differ.

I paid to hear your music, not your politics. If your politics are in your songs, fine. Sing it, brother. If not, go on CNN to talk about it.

This has nothing to do with freedom of speech, mind you. I just think there's a time and place for it. When I saw The Boss on the Seeger Sessions Tour (which was absolutely killer, by the way), He said something about the "Unfortunate accident down there in the White House".

Some cheers, some boos. Nothing from me. It was brief, and over, and got right back to the music.

The double standard is kind of annoying, though. The Dixie Chicks career was killed by what Natalie said about G.W., but Barbara Streisand actually had a Bush impersonator in her show, acting like a buffoon and basically being an idiot.

Natalie Maines tosses out an off the cuff comment, and the Chicks are finished. Streisand has an obviously premeditated attack on the President, and not so much as a blurb on the news.

I'm not defending Bush, like I said, I don't care about politics. I'm just sayin', doesn't seem right to me.

The only artist I've ever boycotted is Don Henley. I'll listen to the Eagles, but none of his solo stuff, and I'll tell you why. It has nothing to do with his views on anything. I heard him in an interview discussing a new release (this was easily 25 years ago), and while talking about one of the songs, (I forget which) and it has some sort of 'message', he actually said, "Why should I give people what they want to hear? I'm going to give them what they need to hear"

Click. Haven't listened to a Don Henley solo song since. I'll decide what I need to hear. And it ain't Don Henley.
