Wow. So there are completely unknown songs about these wars. Great!

Thanks for clearing that up.

Personally, though there have been songs about modern politics/current events I don't really prefer that in music I listen to though some songs that happen to be about politics I like as a song. I prefer universal themes or personal ventures that an artist goes through related to me rather than one they are involved in as a number and have an agenda on, noble or not. That's just my stance. I do like System Of A Down and some Rage Against the Machine but just on a sonic level. I've never gotten further into their actual subject matter and went "I need to take a stance against this!" Music is my escape and to make me feel good. I really don't want any harsh realities intermingling in my leisure. That's just my feelings on music intermingling with politics. No judgment on those who like that mix. :)

Can I also ask that we utilize the "Report" button when we feel a conversation is going in an inappropriate direction?

While I appreciate the enthusiasm our members have here for the rules and guidelines and wanting to adhere to them, taking it upon yourselves to point them out to other members can sometimes be misconstrued and lead to arguments.

Please, by all means, PM a mod/admin or report a post and the team will take action if necessary. Sometimes we don't see everything that is posted, so using this tool will really help us in cleaning up conversations that go against the rules. We will take all concerns seriously and treat every situation as fairly as we can.

Oh cool thread. I really like songs that are about politics, especially if the artist has really put his "heart and soul" into it. It just gives the song an extra edge. And if you're tired of the melody there are still the lyrics. :)

But... I can't enjoy a song when I strongly disagree with the stance. It goes even further, I can't enjoy music, or art, or literature, when I know the person who made it has a - in my eyes- extreme political stance that I don't agree with. For example, I've recently found out that Dali was a fascist, and now I can't really enjoy his art anymore.

Oh U2 hasn't been mentioned here yet.
I think this one's about the israeli-palestinian conflict:

Lay down
Lay down
Lay your sweet lovely on the ground
Lay your love on the track
We're gonna break the monster's back
Yes we are...
Lay down your treasure
Lay it down now brother
You don't have time
For a jealous lover

As you enter this life
I pray you depart
With a wrinkled face
And a brand new heart

I don't know if I can take it
I'm not easy on my knees
Here's my heart I'll let you break it

I need some release, release, release

We need
Love and peace
Love and peace

Lay down
Lay down your guns
All your daughters of Zion
All your Abraham sons
I don't know if I can make it
I'm not easy on my knees
Here's my heart I'll let you break it
I need some release, release, release

We need
Love and peace
Love and peace

Baby don't fight
We can talk this thing through
With me, me and you
I'll call on your phone
The TV is still on
But the sound is turned down
And the troops on the ground
Are about to dig in

And I wonder where is the love?
Where is the love?
Love and peace
Where is the love?
Where is the love?
Where is the love?

I think this song by system of a down pretty much sums up what the world is up to lately...

You and me will all go down in history,
With a sad Statue of Liberty,
And a Generation that didn't agree.

Conquest to the lover,
And your love to the fire,
Permanence unfolding in the absolute.

Forgivness is
The ultimate sacrifice.
Eloquence belongs,
To the conqueror.

The pictures of time and space are rearranged,
In this little piece of typical tragedy.

Justified Candy!
Brandy for the nerves,
Eloquence belongs,
To the conqueror.

You and me will all go down in history,
With a sad Statue of Liberty,
And a Generation that didn't agree.

You and me will all go down in history,
With a sad Statue of Liberty,
And a Generation that didn't agree.

I forgot to
I forgot to let you know that...

Justified Candy!
Brandy for the nerves,
Eloquence belongs,
To the conqueror.

Conquest to the lover,
And your love to the fire,
Permanence unfolding in the absolute.

Forgivness is
The ultimate sacrifice.
Eloquence belongs,
To the conqueror.

You and me will all go down in history,
With a sad Statue of Liberty,
And a Generation that didn't agree.

You and me will all go down in history,
With a sad Statue of Liberty,
And a Generation that didn't agree.

Generation..............

What is in us that turns a deaf ear to the cries of human suffering?!!!

WOAH!!!!!!!

Suffering, suffering now!

You and me will all go down in history,
With a sad Statue of Liberty,
And a Generation that didn't agree.

You and me will all go down in history,
With a sad Statue of Liberty,
And a Generation that didn't agree.

Re: Where Are The Songs That Relect Our Current Times?

Bottom line, if you want to talk about politics or religion or if you have some social agenda items that you'd like to discuss, a google search will give you a thousands of other sites around the world that allow it, accept it or even thrive on that sort of thing. Here, we'd like to stay away from it and keep the normal civility of things just that... civil. :)

Your missing the point. I don't want to talk politics and religion on a music site. But to say someone is getting political if they mention artists who write socially conscious material, is inaccurate.

If I decided I wanted to talk about Handel's Messiah, or Bach masses in the classical section, would that be too religious? You can't separate the artist from the content. This is not the same as talking directly about politics or religion. It's music related.

Re: Where Are The Songs That Relect Our Current Times?

This is an example from a song that represents our time, sadly enough, it's about multiculturalism and these girls strongly oppose it. (I know I can't actually discuss politics, but I do want to say I strongly disagree with their stance, as most people here would I guess because it is an extreme one)

These girls are neo nazis. The name prussian blue is

Prussia = Germany
Blue = Zyklon B, gas used to kill Jews in the Holocaust

You don't like Dali because he is fascist yet you push music by neo nazi scum? I will take Ilovejimmypage's advice and report this but I am also posting because I found this incredibly hurtful, you should be ashamed!

Re: Where Are The Songs That Relect Our Current Times?

^ What? I didn't mean offence at all, I am flabbergasted myself that these songs are still being written....
I don't like this music at all. I do think, at least where I'm living, there's still a lot of xenophobia and racism, and I know antisemitism is also a reality in a lot of countries, which I find horrible. I thought the song "represented" this age as in: antisemitism, racism and xenophobia are still out there.
I'm not saying that it should be tolerated, but its existence should at least be acknowledged because denying it would be wrong, in my opinion. That's what I wanted to achieve with the post, I meant no offence whatsoever, and I'm sorry that you took it the wrong way.
