Re: Queen ~ February 2010 Band of the Month

It's all good Sunny. :)

"I Want To Break Free" is one of Queen's most famous music video because it was a parody of a British soap opera but foreign audiences (specifically those in the States) didn't get the reference and just thought the entire band enjoyed crossdressing around each other...which was incorrect so it stirred up quite a bit of controversy and (I'm not 100% on this) got banned from being played on MTV.

GOT BANNED! You're kidding! It wasn't banned here in Australia. It's such a good and amusing video. :)

Well I'm not 100% positive on whether it is or not, but I seem to recall reading somewhere that it was. American's are just close minded....

Great band, had to be something stupendous to win in the awesome lineup of candidates for this past vote. I'm particularly fond of their Jazz album, as well as A Night at the Opera

They beat Alice Cooper by one vote, which sort of hurt me a bit. I wasn't that I wanted Alice to lose. I mean, I really wanted Alice to win....just a different month when Queen wasn't in the mix. :D

"Jazz" and "A Night At The Opera" are faves of mine too.

One song off each that I really love:

Re: Queen ~ February 2010 Band of the Month

Freddies last song, which Brian May had to sing the last verse to since Freddie was having such bronchial problems....Beautiful song :)

Lyrics:
I don't want to sleep with you
I don't need the passion to
I don't want a stormy affair
To make me feel my life is heading somewhere
All I want is the comfort and care
Just to know that my woman gives me sweet
Mother love, uh ha

I've walked too long in this lonely lane
I've had enough of this same old game
I'm a man of the world, they say that I'm strong
But my heart is heavy and my hope is gone
Out in the city, in the cold world outside
I don't want pity, just a safe place to hide
Mama please, let me back inside

I don't want to make no waves
But you can give me all the love that I crave
I can't take it if you see me cry
I long for peace before I die
All I want is to know that you're there
You're gonna give me all your sweet
Mother love, uh ha
Mother love

My body's aching, but I can't sleep
My dreams are all the company I keep
Got such a feeling as the sun goes down
I'm coming home to my sweet
Mother
Mother love, mother love, love, love, love, love, love, love

(God works in mysterious ways)
(Mysterious ways)
Eeeehhh, dop
Eh dop, eh dop

I think I'm going back
To the things I learnt so well
In my youth

"Mother Love" is probably the darkest song from the "Made In Heaven" album. At the end you can hear several sample from earlier Queen recordings, several being from their "Live From Wembley '86" album.

And another tribute to Freddie and Queen from the good ol' designers in the Resident Evil camp is with Claire Redfield. On her back, across the shoulders it says "Made In Heaven", which is the album that "Mother Love appeared on, as well as the title track to said album, and the original version which appears on Freddie's solo debut album "Mr. Bad Guy".

I love how "Prophet's Song" flows right into "Love of My Life" seamlessly.

As much as I love the original I actually lick how Extreme would cover it and then segway into "More Than Words" (which is a song that I otherwise don't much care for).

Here's their rendition at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert:
