HI Lynch!
If in your last post, you are referring to 1975's "Wish You Were Here",I too believe,it is a bit over rated as it gets a big draggy in its latter stages.I personally think they may have gone overboard a bit with all the electronic wizardy with little substance to the compositions as wholes.Still a reasonably worthwhile effort, but I hardly think it Floyd at their best. However, the title track has always been one of my favorite lyrical tunes and I do like the anti-establishment "Welcome to the Machine".The theorem presented here actually applies much more now in a world that has become extremely self involved on many individual levels concerned mostly about money and material possessions.Seems fewer and fewer people by year are exhibiting little or no worthwhile philosophical and spiritual values..................

I thought it was pretty clear Lynch was listening to the new PF album The Endless River, no one else mentioned any other album - if he'd meant any other album he'd most likely have mentioned it by name.

I cannot agree with your view on Wish You Were Here at all, I think it is brilliant from start to finish - it has my favourite song of all in Shine On You Crazy Diamond and the three shorter tracks are all classic. It doesn't drag at the end either, for me the ending with SOYCD Part IX is the most poignant part of the entire album, and as for lacking compositional substance - the majority of the album was written about, or at least inspired by, the sad decline of Syd Barrett (SOYCD and the title track), or the role of the music business in his fate (Welcome To The Machine). I also consider Have A Cigar to be critical of the music industry but in a broader sense than Machine.

If there's one Pink Floyd album that uses too much unnecessary electronics I think it's A Momentary Lapse Of Reason - just listen to A New Machine, I can understand the idea behind it but David singing through the vocoder with just a faint synth part for company just doesn't work in practice.

Listening to the new Floyd and it could definitely been a much better release w/ input /collaboration from Roger Waters....some vocals / songs would have been nice too.

I got The Endless River for Christmas and have to say I'm pretty pleased with it myself - I can understand why casual Floyd fans are disappointed but I really like Gilmour's guitar playing throughout the album, it had his classic sound and I have to say I really like the album artwork, which I wasn't sure about when I saw it online but it looks really good on the physical album. The inside booklet, which contains several photographs of Gilmour, Mason and in some cases Wright, is also very pleasing to me.

If there was one track which stood out to me on my first full listen it was the second song It's What We Do. I also liked Talkin' Hawkin' which surprised me somewhat as I'm not much of a fan of Keep Talking (my least favourite from The Division Bell).

I'm no causal Floyd fan..pieced togather bits that could have been developed and improved upon by making actual songs ....that would have gone along way in improving this release. Without that finishing craft it feels more like an"extras" package IMO.

Been a huge Floyd fan since I first started spinning vinyl..in another words since I was ten. That doesn't mean I'm ready to hail unfinished work as a master stroke just because it's Pink Floyd. It has some great music on it ...ideas that needed to be brought along.

Its still not horrible ...I mean it is Pink Floyd..still I expected more.

I can sympathise with your thoughts on The Endless River, I couldn't honestly say it was one of their very finest releases. I am happy with it but am fine if others do not like it, I do not care for most of the A Momentary Lapse Of Reason album myself so I definitely understand where you're coming from in saying that your love for the band doesn't mean that everything they do is great - a view I wholeheartedly agree with. I do think the album manages to be greater than the sum of its parts in that relatively few individual tracks stand out but the album as a whole is, I think, pleasingly cohesive, although the same can be argued for The Wall or even The Dark Side Of The Moon.

I'm personally quite happy with how the album turned out for the most part.

I respect that...its growing on me just as a kinda tribute thing. But just seems unfinished to me is all. Not saying it doesn't have its moments.

I wish it had more vocals though is my main issue with the album.
