Her first album was awesome. One of the better pop albums of the decade. Something I'd put on par with Thriller, Purple Rain* or Sports (Huey Lewis) as an album that was almost a perfect 80's album. It had SO many hits on it.

And she basically came on the scene out of nowhere.

  1. "The Way That You Love Me"
  2. "Knocked Out"
  3. "Opposites Attract"
  4. "State of Attraction"
  5. "I Need You"
  6. "Forever Your Girl"
  7. "Straight Up"
  8. "Next To You"
  9. "Cold Hearted
  10. "One or the Other”
There had to be at least 6 if not 7 hits on that list. Can't remember the last female vocalist to do that (maybe Taylor Dayne at some point? *shrug*)

* I categorize Purple Rain as either rock or pop, depending on the situation and topic.

It was a perfect album. I have just a hits compilation on c.d. but that tape was a real early favorite of mine as a kid and I still think the material holds strong. Why else would I know all the lyrics without really listening to her in large doses since my youth. I think if I see that album again I'll purchase it for the nostalgia! :grinthumb
