I'm looking for some recommendations on this, and I can't think of a better place to ask than on this forum. I was wondering about which music publications folks here read, if any? If so, have you discovered any recording artists by reading about them in music magazines? What do you usually look for when checking out bands in a magazine? The interviews or reviews of their concerts and albums?

Shindig! is a wonderful magazine that comes out every other month. They prominently feature sixties music and are heavily into garage but they also cover psychedelic, prog, folk and other assorted genres and mini-genres. It has surpassed Mojo as my favorite music oriented magazine. I can see a lot of people here getting into Shindig! if they haven't already.

Oh man, Shindig should be the "weekly reader" for most of the boys and girls on CRF!:grinthumb

It's a well done mag chock full 'o what we alll discuss on a daily basis on CRF.

I'm a long time Mojo reader cover to cover but lately, it has become occasionally spotty. It's still one of the best high circulation mags out there though.

More of a fanzine but at 200 pages + and now published twice a year, Ugly Things is a fantastic mag. The closest a music publication has come to the long gone but not forgotten Bomp magazine published by Greg Shaw.

I like to check out metal from around the world, so I have several online and local newstand magazines I look at.

For information on UK metal bands the best magazine is:

For Canadian and underground metal a quarterly magazine:

Great, and fairly new, is Decible with some great reviews and interviews:

and the most commercial metal magazine I look at because of all the coverage they give to the biggest names in metal:

I miss Blender! :( It had a great mix of music and it had a sense of humor that I've seen missing from most music mags! Unfortunately, I don't care for Rolling Stone as they waste more time on politics than music itself. I really don't think their is a good magazine out their anymore for people who like all varieties of music!

I abhor Rolling Stone. Too politically motivated and leans toward what is popular. The lists they come up are jokes.

I would much rather read Creem.

I had a huge stack of them myself at one time. I think I still have the final issue and the first issue around here somewhere.
