NOOOOOO WAAAYYYYYY......the so-called "King of Pop" alias jacko is much more OVERRated than the Pelvis :):):lmao::cheers:

How can Elvis - the King of Rock & Roll not be overrated? Everyone's heard of him - even the little whipper snappers, so that's a definite "YES" in my book!

Someone up here said overrated is not necessarily synonymous of bad...and he was right......like overrated is NOT synonymous of RATED WELL....and Jacko is rated very badly...he should be pulled down off his false throne rapidooooooooooooo and Elvis is rated for what he is, the BEST, and surely he was better than any Jacko or whatever they liked to call him:)

Elvis is awesome.

To be honest, I think the Rolling Stones are overrated. I hate practically all of their songs and have no idea how they even lasted this long. Nothing they have ever done has been spectacular in any way, imo.

I'm the opposite Foxy, I think Elvis is vastly overrated, and I have actually started liking the Stones more now than I did 20 years ago. But, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Who and The Stones, are all a little overrated, sometimes their reputations overshadow their music, even though I love all four of them I will admit that much..

To me saying someone is overated is all just personal opinions. If you're a huge fan of a band/artist & someone or several people tell you they're overated it's easy to look at them like they're crazy. If someone is selling millions of albums & selling out 10,000-100,000 seat venues & all of those fans are enjoying the hell out it,they must be doing something right. So that's why it comes down to opinion & it don't really matter if I say the mighty Zeppelin or Hendrix are overated because to millions & millions of fans they're not overated sooooooooo...I'm going to say Hendrix is overated & never saw what everyone else did.Sure I like a lot of his stuff but in my opinion he was nothing compared to Jeff Beck,Robbie Kreiger,Johnny Winter,or my hero of the Woodstock Movie...Alvin Lee all from Jimi's era.
Jimi must've been doing something right but I could never see it. I mentioned Zeppelin earlier & as I said I do love a lot of their songs but I never understood how they were Gods.Plant in my opinion is nothing more than a mediocre - above average imitation of Janis Joplin,Page was okay,John Paul Jones was okay, & John Bonham...well the only thing I'll give him a thumbs up for is the sound on the intro roll on "Rock & Roll" even though that's a rip off from Little Richard's "Keep a Knockin'". I really think that Page was the reason for their popularity & not because of his playing but because of his look,
style,& overall coolness.
In closing I'll defend the Stones by saying the same thing I said earlier(which also includes the 2 I bashed). The Stones must've been doing something right for all these years & if they are still able to have millions & millions of fans today all the power to them....And as for Kiss, nobody including Kiss themselves ever really said they were amazing musicians that are known for there technically sound albums.Kiss became more than just a rock band in the late 70's & the more the fans wanted, the more the band produced & sure they may have went a bit overboard but there was nothing overated. They weren't getting rave reviews from Rolling Stone except for their debut(I don't have every issue of Creem but from what I remember the reviews were pretty much the same). Over the years they've often been criticized in magazines & TV yet they still sell albums & still are able to pull in decent crowds for their shows & the reason is because of the fans

I disagree. Elvis was like Michael Jackson, a mega star at a young age who threw it all away and died a pathetic excuse for a man at a very early age. Contrast Frank Sinatra and Mick Jagger to those two.

To be honest, I think the Rolling Stones are overrated. I hate practically all of their songs....

You don't even know a tiniest fraction of their catalogue. I doubt you recognize even a quarter of this selection of some of my favourites from their earlier years:

Fortune Teller (More Hot Rocks)
Poison Ivy (More Hot Rocks)
I Wanna Be Your Man (More Hot Rocks)
Tell Me (England's Newest Hitmakers)
Not Fade Away (England's Newest Hitmakers)
It's All Over Now (12X5)
Time Is on My Side (12X5)
Heart of Stone (Rolling Stones Now!)
Surprise, Surprise (Rolling Stones Now!)
Off the Hook (Rolling Stones Now!)
Down Home Girl (Rolling Stones Now!)
The Last Time (Out of Our Heads)
Play With Fire (Out of Our Heads)
Cry to Me (Out of Our Heads)
That's How Strong My Love Is (Out of Our Heads)
As Tears Go By (December's Children)
Singer Not the Song (December's Children)
Gotta Get Away (December's Children)
Blue Turns to Grey (December's Children)
19th Nervous Breakdown (High Tide and Green Grass)
All Sold Out (Between the Buttons)
Complicated (Between the Buttons)
Out of Time (Flowers)
Take It or Leave It (Flowers)
Lady Jane (Flowers)
Mother's Little Helper (Flowers)
Let's Spend the Night Together (Flowers)
Backstreet Girl (Flowers)
Ruby Tuesday (Flowers)
Have You Seen Your Mother Baby, Standing in the Shadow? (Flowers)
We Love You (More Hot Rocks)
Dandelion (More Hot Rocks)
2000 Man (Their Satanic Majesties Request)
She's a Rainbow (Their Satanic Majesties Request)
Lantern (Their Satanic Majesties Request)
2000 Light Years from Home (Their Satanic Majesties Request)
Citadel (Their Satanic Majesties Request)
Child of the Moon (More Hot Rocks)
Stray Cat Blues (Beggars Banquet)
Salt of the Earth (Beggars Banquet)
Dear Doctor (Beggars Banquet)
Gimme Shelter (Let It Bleed)
Midnight Rambler (Let It Bleed)
Bitch (Sticky Fingers)
Wild Horses (Sticky Fingers)
Dead Flowers (Sticky Fingers)
Sister Morphine (Sticky Fingers)
Sway (Sticky Fingers)

(I) have no idea how they even lasted this long.

It's because of their catalogue dear. And because unlike Elvis they've never been content to watch a television on their ceilings and grow fat.

But that's probably why you, and so many others born after 1970, dislike the Stones. You actually resent their longevity since so many of the bands with which you grew up came and went so quickly.

Bucky:

I agree! Zep was a very good band to be sure but they weren't the be-all and end-all as so many of their rabid fans seem to believe. In fact, relative to the Stones, Zep was just a flash-in-the-pan.

I agree. Once a band has built up such a reputation that it overshadows their music, that band can properly be said to be overrated.

Bottom line, the truth. I CERTAINLY believe that Michael Jackson was the most over rated "artist" of all time, but that's just my opinion. Nothing will ever change my opinion, but nothing can ever make my opinion "factual" on any level, although, I may make a completely factual argument to support my position.

The "fact" that Jacko is OVERRated is very FACTUAL (pun intended :))....it's not an opinion even because many of his fans don't even know that the so-called Moonwalk was NOT invented by MJ but by someone else......see how things can get distorted out there :):)......"best dancer and overrall entertainer in the world" my ass :):)

I bet Fred Astaire would be turning in his grave right now if he found out he wasn't the Greatest Dancer - MJ probably borrowed the Moonwalk from Fred as well! :wtf: But people just loved him so much, he was an overnight smash with it!
