Ok well I just got listening to Junior Dad...ALL OF IT!!
No lie...whooo..that was a long one. You know it had a nice melody as repetitive as it was and tbh I like the meditative ending the best though a little long.
I think what saves Metallica here is that it's really a cash in for Lou Reed. It's really his album using them. So if it grabs some new listeners along the way that may not otherwise listen to either, that may be a good thing.
However...Lou's voice has seen better days.
Metallica fans?? Well many have to understand that there is a long history of promises of "we'll never do this or that" from Mr. Ulrich. Also the Metallica fans are really waiting for a return to Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets.
I mean, of course it can be argued that repeating the past could be a bad thing, but for many things like food, movies, sports, books...certain formulas work that keep a consumer interested.
I like to think that progression of one's formula in music works better than all out change.
Again, I think it shows pretty good incentive on Metallica's end to do a project like this with Lou Reed...however I think it was a little too soon after Death Magnetic. I did hear rumours that this album "LuLu" has inspired the band to where they may be taking their next album musically..WITHOUT Lou.
For Metallica fans...if they do this?? That will be their final nail in the Metalli-coffin.
Let's hope not....I mean you did your project...out of your system...now leave it behind you and get back to work.

Metallica can't do the style of the old albums, Hetfield uses cleaner vocals now.
Lol if Metallica ever do their own albums like Lulu, I will say RIP Metallica.
They wouldn't be that crazy, thats stooping lower then St Anger. If they reduce their music to repetitive riffing, it would be reverting back to St Anger, the riffs on Lulu in some parts were decent but the problem was it was repetitive, music should not be repetitive, it needs to be artistic, that is just recycled bullshit.
I wouldn't buy into those rumours, Metallica wouldn't be that stupid....then again they have taken steps backward before. DO NOT do another Lulu.

I've already said RIP Metallica. Sure DM was better than St. Anger, but honestly, they're never gonna be at the level of anything from 1991 or older. I know that they had good intentions with this project with Lou Reed, and honestly it was a cool IDEA. But I don't think they realized till they started recording that the REALITY of it was a whole different ballgame. Either way, Metallica isn't ever going to record another classic album. Those are done. Anything else is just hope, and trust me, you can hope all you want, but you'll never get another AJFA.
With that said, **** Lulu. Enjoy the old stuff. As sad as it sounds, when do bands ever create classic or fantastic records once they're far past their prime? Asnwer: VERY rarely, usually never.

European bands like Rhapsody, Kamelot, Gamma Ray, Edguy, Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, Blind Guardian ect. all have improved with time.
'Tallica needs to take a few pointers. Be fans again..the band that followed Anvil, Raven, Exciter, Angel Witch, Mercyful Fate, Black Sabbath ect.

Good, I'm glad you listened to the song with an open mind and actually dug it. That's all I was going for. I won't be buying the album likely but I was "Hey, you know this track is actually pretty cool!"
