If one goes on a roast and gets offended then they are a ****ing idiot.
Don't go on them if you have a thin skin. lol I think he took it like a good sport.

I've seen his Roast and I think he was a little bit surprised at how they went after him as well as some of the other roasters, but he did seem to take most of it in pretty good fun. He's lucky they didn't have the usual suspects in terms of the really great Comedy Central Roasts over the past 10 years or so. I love them, but man sometimes they can really be brutal. Greg Geraldo and Jeffery Ross are probably my two favorite roasters

You know, I've been pondering this whole 'genius businessman' tag.

Does Gene have any successful businesses outside of the KISS brand name?

I mean, does he have anything with any amount of success?

I'm not comparing his 'outside' success to the KISS merchandise cash cow, because there won't ever be anything he could do to top that.

I don't know for sure, but he may have a record label or something.

Anyhow, riding the crest of the glut merchandise hardly makes him a genius, business or otherwise.

Was the merch idea a stroke of genius? Maybe. It could just as easily be the most profitable lucky guess of all time.

Even so, what has he done since that makes him a genius businessman?

I think Gene is more a media whore than business genius.

I thought that was just a given?

I don't know. I'm pretty sure that any and every business venture he gets into has the KISS name on it.

KISS (trademark) ~is~ a brandname and it is a corporation. The band is just one part of that. He happens to be the guy running things at that company. Asking if he's done anything outside of this company that has been a successful business is kind of like asking if Bill Gates has ever done anything successful outside of Microsoft, or if Sam Walton ever did anything successful outside of Walmart.

No, I'm not trying to say that the Kiss Korporation is as big as either of those, but just using them as examples.

I quoted you because you were (I think) defending Gene's right to say what he wants. Some of his comments were viewed by some as racist. A lot of people cry "freedom of speech" simply because they can't make their racist or sexist or homophobic remarks any more without public criticism. As far as the media outlets go, I think they work for the advertisers more than the government. Like someone once said "Just follow the money".

Why is saying he doesn't like a group of people so bad? Why can't people just laugh at what he says (like they used to in past decades) instead of making a federal case about it?

This whole race thing is overblown. It's just another hot-button issue perpetrated by the powers that be to cause unrest amongst the populace.

What if Sterling was Mexican and he told his girlfriend not to bring any Puerto Ricans to the game. Do you think that would cause nearly the same stir? Would people gasp in horror? No, of course not. Because we as a society haven't been conditioned to think that's a horrible act, even though it's the same thing with different colors and races of people.

Of course, as a team owner who has blacks playing for him, it's embarrassing for him and will damage a lot of relationships he once had.

But for the rest of us who this doesn't affect, why should we care so much about what he said? It's just another opinion from someone.

Yes, that was my thought as well. So much for the genius tag.

A one trick pony that evolved into beating a dead horse. For 40 years.

Still, the guy's loaded. Can't argue with that.

Green > Embarrassment & Relationships

Just my opinion, anyhow.

Sterling. Simmons defended his right to privacy. This was the thing that offended you, no?

Actually, nothing about Gene Simmons offends me. Frankly, I'm too old to be offended by things a celebrity says. Some I agree with, some I don't. I've never been one (like Ann Coulter) who thinks that celebrities should just "shut up" and do what they do (sing, act, play football, etc.). We all, as Americans, have the right to our opinions and to voice them if we want. I just find it really funny that Gene, a man who puts everything about his life in the marketplace, cries "privacy" when he says something that offends people. I was simply adding my two cents to the discussion, that's all. P.S. I read today that Gene has apologized for his comments following Robin Williams' death.
