Sounds like fun Sound! Do we each do one every day or take turns? And anyone else can join in too.
Nice one gcczep. Great sounding bootleg. I think all the Bruce activity here is due to the fact 2012 is going to be a huge Bruce year again with a new album and tour.
Sure Jackie, anyone can play!! All threads I assume are open to anyone if they want to play along, anyone can just pick a Bruce song, and explain briefly why they love it... just posting a YouTube with no explanation isn't really what I have in mind. I expect you'd agree that the reason Bruce is so much loved is that he writes songs which many ordinary people can relate to day-to-day, either personally or romantically or politically, so it's fun to talk about them and what they mean to us as fans/people. I was thinking one song per day each, not alternate, or at least as long as we're around, I try to log in here most days, but I have a very unpredictable life and so you never quite know what's coming next, especially at weekends, so if I miss a day or two, still post your own song of the day, and I'll catch up! Also why not rate the Bruce songs that you don't post yourself...for example you just posted 'You're Missing' - it brings a lump to my throat for all the reasons you described so nicely, scores a 10/10, not possible for anyone to find a grain of fault in a moving song like that. We lost a friend on 9/11, not a close personal friend, but somebody known well to the family, and we attended the funeral/memorial service, can't say enough about that whole The Rising album, it was typical of Bruce to tap into that whole post 9/11 trauma with such an incredibly uplifting and resilient record.
Btw, hope you like my new siggy! Oh I know I fiddle around with my sig/avy quite a lot, but I think I'm settled on this one for quite a while now, we really missed seeing Clarence up there with the guys the other night, so that's two of us on here now with Clarence on display (well, you have his shoulder, but it's all good, the man had one hell of a shoulder for Bruce to lean on over the years!)
OK, my next one, THE SOUND'S 'BRUCE SONG OF THE DAY', TUESDAY ...I'm picking 'Frankie' which is maybe a bit out of left field for my second pick, it's on the 'Tracks' collection, it was an outtake from the 'Born in the USA' sessions and has always been one of my favourite ever Bruce outtakes...
"Shining like these street lights down here on the strand, bright as the rain in the palm of your hand" is just such poetry, Its a "real" song, nothing like what you see written in today's pop or hip-hop scene, although there is still a little hope in today's rock. It's one of those Bruce songs where you take whatever you take from it. I also love the sudden dramatic last minute key change at around 6 min 10 seconds which leads into a great sax solo from The Big Man. Reading these sorts of poetic lyrics made me realize that Bruce is one of the greatest songwriter ever...
Dark weekends in the sun out on Chelsea Road
Descending the stairs, Frankie, my one
Check your makeup in the mirror c'mon babe let's go
We'll dance 'round this dirty town 'til the night is all done
Let all the finer things sleep alone tonight
Let all the minor kings lose their thrones tonight
Don't worry about us, baby, we'll be alright
Well everybody's dying, this town's closing down
They're all sittin' down at the courthouse waiting for 'em to take the flag down
I see strange flashes in the sky up above
Gonna spend the night at the drive-in with the one that I love
At dusk the stars all appear on the screen
Yeah, just like they do each night in my dreams
But tonight's no dream, Frankie, I can feel myself too
Well now and forever my love is for you
Walk softly tonight little stranger
Yeah into these shadows we're passing through
Talk softly tonight, little angel
You make all my dream worlds come true
Well lately I've been standing out in the freezing rain
Readin' them want ads out on Chelsea Road
I'm winging down the street in search of new games
Hustling through these nightlights' diamond glow
Well Frankie I don't know what I'm gonna find
Maybe nothing at all, maybe a world I can call mine
Shining like these streetlights down here on the strand
Bright as the rain in the palm of your hand
Walk softly tonight, little stranger
Into the shadows where lovers go
Talk softly to me, little angel
Whisper your secrets so soft and low
