No shortage of competition but undoubtedly Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited.

The Beatles of course had a banner year with Help and Rubber Soul, Dylan had another classic with Bringing It All Back Home and the Stones with Out Of Our Heads.

Otis Redding's Otis Blue is awesome.

Also, gotta mention the Sonics crazed debut album, Here Are The Sonics.

Outside rock and into jazz, John Coltrane released A Love Supreme and Miles Davis released E.S.P. Not too shabby!

Probably agree with Dylan Highway 61

Though being a Van The Man devotee, I have to also say The Angry Young Them, with Gloria, Mystic Eyes, Route 66, and my USA release also has Here Comes The Night.

Highway 61 without a doubt, The Beatles took a major step forward artistically, but both Dylan albums in 65 are better than either of The Beatles albums.

Yeah. The thread title makes no mention of genre (yeah I know we are on a classic rock forum) so this was going to be my choice. A Love Supreme is sublime.

If we relegated to (classic) rock then I also say Highway 61 Revisited

Certainly Highway 61 was a huge album in that year, but I believe this album was equal to it. It showcased the massive talent that Otis was. As regards the cover - the record company, at the time, felt it would not be a good idea to have an image of Otis as, with him being black, it would not be good for sales. That is why there is a beautiful white woman on it :uh: Recently the Otis Family Facebook Page have been trying to track down who she was.
