Here's a thread for work or a project that a band or artist did after they faded from the limelight that all but only the most hardcore of fans would know about. Post ones that are either amusing (as in "They did that?" :omg:) or are actually awesome projects/albums that people are missing out on if it slipped their radar.

I'm going to post one that shocked me and I don't know if it's bad or not. For Mr. Big fans present or past you may or may not know after they faded here that they still remained big overseas. I've always thought the group was underrated and they bridged that gap between great pop rock aesthetics, amazing vocals and beyond solid musicianship. Besides releasing a new album that got attention stateside a year or so ago lead singer Eric Martin got a chance to shine on a track on the new Avantasia album. I think it's an awesome track and really showcases that he more than still has the goods vocally though it is a little bit weaker live from what I've heard. Still it may be my favorite track this year.

Avantasia (ft. Eric Martin)-What's Left of Me

Hoooooooowever.........

That's not the main focus of my post although that does show what he's doing most recently. When looking up the name Eric Martin on youtube in relation to that song I saw something that made my jaw drop. :omg: Apparently not only does Mr. Big have a following thanks to their overseas popularity but it's afforded Eric Martin a solo career of sorts. One series of albums he's had are titled Mr. Vocalist and he mostly does covers on them. O.K., cool! That makes sense! He's a great vocalist and he can likely cover some old rock songs for a little bit of novelty. Well, this is the first video I saw and the word novelty definitely applies

I have to say that I truly truuuuuuly hate that song but being unbiased he does a good job with it though even he can't kill the schmaltz that is that song. It doesn't end their though as he seemsw to be trying to outdiva every pop diva he can with the following covers:

I Will Always Love You, Hero and Beautiful

Out of all these I personally think "I Will Always Love You" is the best as he's smart enough to do Dolly's take on it. I like both Dolly and Whitney's version personally but I think a rock artist should be able to interpret the stripped down original better and this is the only track I can almost see as an acoustic number on his original bands album. Like I said I don't really know what I think of this material. Is it a great showcase of his vocals and versatility or is it just a novelty of an artist covering the most popular titles he can to cash in. Either way it's an interesting find! What are yours?

Jake Holmes is best known as the acid folk artist from the late 60s who wrote and recorded the haunting original version of Dazed and Confused, later reworked without citation by The Yardbirds and further reworked into a classic rock anthem by Led Zeppelin.

But this cerebral psychedelic singer-songwriter has spent the rest of his life as a jingle writer, co-composing some of the most well-known ad campaigns of our time, including these:
