Why Is European Metal Better Than American?

You are confusing music taste with education. Deep Purple predates Riot so does Judas Priest. Again England beat the US to the mainstream metal. I'm not a big fan of Riot, BTW.


The thread question is why is European metal better than American? Answer: it's not better however I prefer bands that are not from the USA.

Riot is just an example showing that heavy music existed in the USA long before 1980s. BTW, their album 'Thundersteel' is a true masterpiece.

Answer for me to the question is not about better but way more enjoyable bands for me from the European side of the globe.

I have 2 Riot albums, Thundersteel & Army of One. They just never appealed to me. In all fairness though, I checked Riot out when I first started giving metal a go. Maybe I will revisit Riot.

I'm partial to Metal from across the pond. However, there are a bunch of bands from the good ole USA that would easily make it into my top-notch metal list.

Manowar
Iced Earth
Savatage
Virgin Steele
Hourglass & Dream Theater (for the more prog metal)

Kamelot did, in fact, start in Florida, though were hardly popular here in the U.S. But they became a different band when Roy Khan arrived and were more "European" after that

Love Roy Khan! Tommy Karavik was a good replacement.....but I'm a Khan fan.
