I think David Gilmour's birthday was on 6th March - better late than never though, so happy 69th birthday to him! :geetar:

For some reason I thought his birthday was on 8th March but funnily enough I was on a train journey on the 6th and played Meddle in full so that was quite an appropriate way to celebrate his birthday. :grinthumb

The dates of birth for the five members of Pink Floyd are as follows:

Syd Barrett - 6th January (I had to check this one)
Nick Mason - 27th January
David Gilmour - 6th March
Rick Wright - 28th July (same as my Dad)
Roger Waters - 6th September

Wright and Waters were both born in 1943, Mason in 1944 with Barrett and Gilmour being born in 1946.

One off-topic but funny coincidence is that my own birthday is the day before Robert Plant's (20th August) while my sister's is the same as John Bonham (31st May).

David is definitely one of my favorite guitarists. I can't say he has aged well. He looks way older than 69 IMO. I guess we are all different in that respect.

Yeah fast living in youth has certainly caught up with many classic rockers.(except the Stones who looked like older men even in THEIR youth). Not all classic rockers have fallen victim to this, however.Paul McCartney has been a vegetarian for thirty years or more and this probably why he has retained his appearance well. Some people really get caught up in the fast lane entertainment biz too much for their own good(check the "27 Club" list for some examples.Elvis and others may have lived longer, but were still gone prematurely.)

With the exception of Syd, none of the Floyd guys had reputations for living the 'Rock'n Roll life style' ie lots of drugs, drink and women. Rick had his issues in the late '70s/early '80s, but that was probably due to his marriage break-up. Looks like Dave has succumbed to the ageing process as we all do :uh:

Well, I think a lot of people don't realize how far we have come with life expectancy either. The chart below is just from 1960 until now. In the 1800's it was around 40 years old.

I'm sorry but I don't have time to go through 108 pages of PF talk, so can someone please put me out of my misery and tell me what the cover for the Meddle album is supposed to be? To me it looks like it's a side of a Nose upside down touching Water, but I guess someone has a better idea or knows what it is?

It's an ear (under water). Not one of Storm Thorgerson's favourites.
