I would bet money that if truth were ever told on this subject, the biggest reason that he did the show in the first place was as a marketing tool for any future Aerosmith project/album/tour.
Possibly but wasn't there a big issue around the fact that Steven Tyler was desperate to make it as a "hollywood A list star". Not in acting, but the whole red carpet thing. I thought that almost contributed to the whole 'Steven's out of Aerosmith we're hiring Lenny Kravitz' thing in 2010/ early 2011.
Delusions of grandeur with a fair amount of ego stroking it seems. Anyway, common sense and the day job prevailed in the end.
It is now being said that Steven didn't quit the show, but was in fact let go. Jennifer Lopez apparently demanded a $2 million pay increase and was let go, and Steven's contract wasn't even renewable for the new season. Ouch.
