John Lennon was a human being
He WASN'T a very good father to either of his boys
He had more physical contact with Sean in his formative years then with Julian but I've read and heard interviews with Sean and he claims his dad was a bit of a nightmare too
John was grouchy and emotional and short-tempered
He expected quiet and unreasonable maturity form very young boys
and the images that the press was allowed to see was formuated a bit
BUT I believe in both cases John did love his son.
Was he good at showing it ? Not always..but John came from a messed up childhood himself and he had no healthy male role models after his Uncle George (Aunt Mimi's hubby)died when he was about 12 years old
His father Freddy Lennon left John 's mother when he was 2 years old
he was a Merchant Marine , HE CAME BACK when John was 5 ,abducted him to Blackpool and his mum Julia, raced up there in in a horrid moment made John CHOOSE who he wanted to live with...he chose Fred at first..Julia brokedown in hysterics and John tearfully chose his mum...He NEVER saw his father again til he was a successful rockstar in 68 !
Julia collected her 'prize' only to leave him alone so much while she was out bar-hopping, raising her other illegitmate children with John 'Twitchie' Bard
that her older sister Mimi Smith begged to take John to raise proper
John then only saw his mother sporadically until she was killed in car accident.
I'm NOT making excuses for his bad parenting ,I'm aiming to provide some facts to my feelings that he had NOTHING to compare parenting with...
yes ,he SHOULD have learned a lesson and bettered this with his own kids but he just didn't KNOW how
I believe that he wanted a better life with them and that he tried in both cases
Woman controled his contact and he was too whimpy imo to stand up to Yoko, Brian Epstein (he made John hide both his marriage and Julian for fans), Cynthia ..even May Pang who used getting Julian to John during 'the lost weekend' to secure her postion in his life (it WAS good but not done with noble intentions)
All this rattling on leads to the point
John was a crappy father
He was a arrogant jerk sometimes
a bit of a selfish B@##rd too
But he certainly ISN'T the only father to do this ...famous or not
I could list plenty of Rockstars who are rotten fathers...sadly!
Does this make John the biggest jerk in music ?
No not imo..it makes him human
as far the will was conserned
Lets remember that Yoko contoled the purse in The Lennon Estate
John willing left money matters to her
He had no concept of his affairs
it been said by many he prob didn't even know how much he was worth..
he had no head for business
I believe he really didn't know that Julian didn't have much
he assumed that those things were handled...stupid I know but John really trusted Yoko
Now Yoko ..well lets say she KNEW alot that John didn't
Communication with Cynthia or Julian wasn't encouraged
and I believe John felt angry because he assumed HE was being ignored ..
she DID allow Julian to inherit money. He recieved thousands when he was 21 BUT he was in the mid of his solo career..he got involved with drugs and blew it ALL away
He admits this himself
He begged Yoko for more but she refused
Ironic considering her and Johns' drug problems but that only made Julian resent her more
Just saying , it's a complicated thing and everybody has a opinion, but I don't think most people have ALL the facts '
On the surface...John looks like el cheapo ...but I believe naive would be a better word in regards to his will...
