Erm... a hell of a lot of people download stuff and then buy the CD. That's not an excuse by any means. This is something done by people who prefer CDs but want to know whether something is worth buying first.

That being said, I don't download music illegally. I buy legal stuff, simply because it's exponentially more convenient. But in cases where something isn't available legally, I'll get it with whatever necessary means.

I have nothing against downloading for sampling an album. I do it myself for a preview but I'm more against the attitude of "I always only like a one/a couple song (usually after a shallow listen if any) so why buy albums" or the worst "Why buy it when you can get it for free". I hate the greedy record company excuse as well but to break it down for people really goes into semantics because proving whether record sales help an artist financially in the long run is about equal to the Christian vs. Atheist arguing over whether God/Jesus really exist. Nobody has all the information 100% so any argument just goes around and around in a retarded circle! :heheh:

Yes I'm quite sure I've said my "legal stuff is just more convenient" line four or five times in this thread already. :D

Yeah, if there wasn't any repetition this thread would be like only 2 pages at this point! :lmao: You are right though. It is more convenient. My hard copy will always be there when I need to copy it on my computer again. It's great to have that so I can have convenience (computer, I-pod for car trips) and the better sounding disc when I'm home and want the better sound quality! :grinthumb

I will just never ever buy the idea that if you have a computer, you are on the site, all the songs are a click away that you will go " well, if i like a song ill put one on my MP3 player, then go buy the cd " Im not making this up....I had an argument with a friend thats about 10 years younger than me...he said the same thing...so i asked what bands ? " oh, white stripes, nirvana, Disturbed " "ok, show me the CD's " "uhhhh, they are in my car, no they are at my friends " BUSTED !

One guy, OLDER than me....47 said. Its not stealing...its file sharing. Uhhh. So i said, " ok so you get it off a file sharing site ? " " yep " " you upload it to your computer then your ipod ? " yep " " without paying for it? " Silence.

It is what it is. Kids dance around the issue. Hey, at least i got to see and hear the real thing. LP's, tapes, huge concerts, videos, mtv played real rock videos. Kids have, guitar hero and Justin Beiber. :oyea: Just look at all the posts on youtube " gosh ! :wa Why don't they have bands like this nowdays
? I was born too late:wa " No. Go look at the 30,000 songs + videos on your computer !

I know anyone on here can say they know people in the industry...But i really do. My Friend...Im not going to say his name, i have got in trouble before but he has toured with Deep Purple, Govt Mule, Kings x, Judast Priest, Scorps, Crue, and smaller groups. Cd sales do effect a bands/musicians career. Say you are a band that just did a good 10yr-5cd contract with big shot records. Ok you are up for another 10 year contract...if you did good you can/could negotiate for more money per cd on this next contract...plus a bonus sign on. You already created a name for yourself so you have clout. Now days ? No way. Some established bands just re-sign on for a one lump sum. I don't blame them. Why take the risk of having all your music ripped off ?

And new established bands have to tour, or sell merch to keep the "machine" rolling.

I guess i shouldn't be exposing whats behind the curtin. Rock is supposed to be about fun and fantasy...but that all takes the dough.

And i don't mean to bag on the kids either. Im 38 but im a big kid or i wouldn't be into rock music. Im glad the youth is into our stuff...youth? Im talking like im 90 HaHa! time for another thread.

I don't know if your avatar represents what you like but Billy Corgin was on a Scorps song on the Humanity Hour 1 CD. Song is called the cross. He is not singing backup...has some major lines in the song. Its good.

I would estimate I've spent over $40,000 since 2000 on the music industry (concerts, cds, tee shirts, programs, travel to concerts, food, alcohol, hotels, etc) don't need the music industry to tell me how to listen or get music.

^^ Okay then, how about the FBI?:D

Because when we get right down to it, downloading songs without paying is stealing. Pure and simple. Hard Rock stated the case very well in a previous post. For over 35 pages people here have danced around the issue, some have been honest and said they download without paying, some have said they never download, me for instance, and some have said they download to see if they like or not and then go buy the CD or pay for the downloaded album. Even if you do the latter, it's really still stealing when you think hard about it. You can listen to samples of just about any album at Amazon and it's free and legal, to see if you like an album without stealing a song or songs.

Think of it this way, you don't go into a store, grab a Milky Way candy bar, leave the store, eat it to see if you like it, and if you do like it, go back and buy more Milky Ways. It's called shoplifting and it's a crime. Think of your downloading songs, and movies, the same way.

My two cents anyway.
