It's up to Cosmic TL, I don't mind reading the complete list, but I'm sure there are others like you who want the creme de la creme of the vote posted asap.

i don't really see how any pick is a shocker thus far if only one person has to give them a vote in order to make the list. personally, i could do without the full list simply because i don't feel the desire to see every single persons pick. ill be waiting for the top 20 to see who the consensus top artists are around here and not just a band that one guy likes and felt like listing
personally I disagree with this. I find it interesting to see the entire list to see both how bands I like and bands I don't care for ended up. I also really appreciate the work that's put into putting the whole thing together, not just seeing what artists/bands ended up where, but to see how many points each got as well as how many lists they were on.

Re: The Favorite Bands/Artists/Groups Census Results: #79-55

i have no problem reading a complete list of something if all of them have been picked multiple times, but idk, there's just something i don't like about this. like the album cover poll when the top 10 only had one or two picks.

but why spend days making a nice tidy list with pictures and bold for bands that only got chosen once? why not just have a nice pretty top 25 for the bands with multiple picks and then proceed to have a complete list with text only after that. part of my problem is that im really anxious to see who snagged the top spots and don't really care too much for every single pick. is it interesting? yeah sure, there's worse things to be looking at and reading, but i'd much rather see the top 25 right away than waiting a week while i only read bands with a single pick. and i mean its nothing against Cosmic at all, i just don't get why this information must be spread across several days and multiple threads when it could be a much more concise and relevant list after the main spots have been listed.

You make some good points TL, but it's all for fun and if this is the way CH has decided to do it then I have no problem with that, I'll be interested to see the top 10.

Well the thing is that there are WELL over a hundred(ish) artists to have been in the mix so this isn't even the full list. If I had posted the entire list of artists then you'd be seeing quite a number of big names that didn't even crack the top hundred(ish) like Iggy Pop, Scorpions, Elvis, Motley Crue, Megadeth, Meat Loaf, Sly and the Family Stone, CCR, The Band, and others.

Also if I may throw out a fun fact about bands that didn't make the list; Dream Theater is the only band to receive more than one vote (one of which was from me) and still didn't crack the top hundred(ish).

with that being said nearly half of my list is in this bottom half but i wasn't really expecting much from them

Well the whole reason I chose the word "census" as opposed to "poll" for the title is because I want everyone to be represented, even the minorities and bands that someone is a diehard fan of. Yeah, sure I could've posted the top ten or twenty and have that been it but that would've only represented what is most popular and not been a good representation of the forum itself and most of the votes would've been wasted and I don't want that.

like the album cover poll when the top 10 only had one or two picks.

Ahem The album covers poll only had 14 people who felt like voting (since it was the seminal thing like this) and the top ten had anywhere between two and four votes for each album, with the top 5(ish) having at least three each. The fact that there were so few voters on a forum with this many active posters after the threading having been open for over a month was mindblowing to me but the fact that nearly a third of the voters voted for "The Number Of The Beast" to have put it at number one was also an accomplishment.

part of my problem is that im really anxious to see who snagged the top spots

Patience is a virtue. ;)

I'm working on that. Pulling together decent picks of all the bands is a bit time consuming (especially if they're a lesser known band on this end of the list) but I think it adds extra flair that makes the results more enjoyable and athletically pleasing for everyone.

I've been trying to upload the next section of the results each day so that's sort of the plan I'm working on right now, despite numerous distractions.

personally I disagree with this. I find it interesting to see the entire list to see both how bands I like and bands I don't care for ended up. I also really appreciate the work that's put into putting the whole thing together, not just seeing what artists/bands ended up where, but to see how many points each got as well as how many lists they were on.

Thank you Lynch. The number of lists an artist appears on is not only a fun fact but in the future updates will be a very important tool for breaking ties. :D

Hopefully this large, multi-quote post will shred some light on why I am approaching this the way I am, particularly the part about why I chose the word "census".

I'm just wondering how Lynyrd Skynyrd only appeared on 2 lists!

What's wrong with you people!

Yes I saw that part and I knew you'd be ok with pretty much however I chose to tackle this but with all the quoting I had to do in that post I felt like I needed to trim the fat a bit here and there. :D

Thanks for the ever present support LG. :)

Well.....we are the same group of people who nominate Skynyrd for artist of the month every month and then mock them by voting for everyone else so that they only get maybe two votes. :D:heheh:

If I recall correctly Skynyrd actually was all the way up in the top 50 but there was a last minute change to someone's choices and they opted to drop Skynyrd to make room for someone else that they had forgot.

Who are these people?

I want there names and addresses and social security numbers, shoe sizes and a list of their favorite breakfast cereals.
:heheh:

Joking, of course....it's time for me to go out. I must be suffering from cabin fever. Thankfully spring comes tomorrow!
