I like the Animals too and I've seen Eric Burdon 3 times in the past three years .. Unfortunately, he (unlike Colin Blunstone of the Zombies) hasn't held up ... Burdon's voice is not what it used to be and he doesn't seem to be enjoying himself on stage.
The last time that I saw Eric Burdon was at HippieFest 2008 and he was better than the previous summer at a blues festival and previous to that in February 2006 at a Casino venue.
That's a pity cause I saw some footage of Eric Burdon doing a tour here earlier this centary which showed Burdon in fine form. Before I left the other forum a mate there was nice enough to send me some YouTube footage of Eric Burdon in the late 90s performing which was also great. The friend who passed this stuff to me was a guy who was featured on the video playing harmonica alongside Burdon.
I think the thing to remember about Eric Burdon though is while there's a Rock element in his music, Blues has also inspired him - you can tell cause the really early Animals material is just that great Blues songs, and to me the Blues is about performing and producing something which is satisifying for the soul, unfortunately everyone's voice changes with age or performing to the standard they did in the 60s only gets harder when people get older. Though nothing could be worse than watching Joe Cocker trying to sing With a Little Help From My Friends Live at the Palace (whatever year that happened) cause he looked as if he was in constant pain!
