Ironically I just bought his Sounds of India cd the night before he died, to make myself more familiar with his music.

Sometimes weird things happen.

RIP...

Does anyone know of any later rock influences which used the Sitar, or was it just a trend that happened in the 60s from The Beatles? :)

This is really sad. His bit was always my favorite part of Monterey Pop and considering the performances from the other musical greats on that film that is saying a lot. RIP man. You really made a significant impact.

He influenced quite a few rock bands, one example is Steely Dan's "Do It Again", impossible to miss the sitar in that song.

Isn't Ravi's daughter Norah Jones?

Far from an expert on Indian music other than Ravi Shankar I can't name another musician from India.
