Well, Sabbath, Purple and even Zeppelin are Proto Metal types, that a given...

I think Kiss influenced a lot of heavy metal musicians, all around the globe - good or bad, that's up for debate.

Kiss was a ''world wide'' phenomenon in the mid - late 70's...

But I agree, the large part of Kiss' fanbase was here in the U.S., the same way Queen's largest fan base was over there in England.

Gotta disagree with the bold. They are generally considered the first metal band universally with metal heads.

Based on Queen and Queen II I will say yes.

But they were the all around, can do anything band. Very much on the proggy side of the fence as well. To me they were sort of the Heavy Metal Beatles. :grinthumb

Bold, meaning Black Sabbath, got ya...

But, I never said Kiss was the first metal band universally. :)

I just made the point, they were popular and influential outside the USA...

I wouldn't even call Kiss, ''heavy metal''...

I just raised the question was Kiss a ''Proto Metal'' band?

I see alot more proto metal in Hotter Than Hell than the debut Groovy...with the exception of tracks like 100,000 Years

Yes. Thier s/t debut...absolutely. I'm on the fence on thier second. Didn't listen to Sheer Heart Attack or A Night At The Opera so I'm not gonna comment and go on my memory.
