Music Pet Peeves

My number one pet peeve is this:

What an idea. The crappiest, most uninspiring drum beats of all-time. Thanks to technology which no doubt costs an arm and a leg.

Seriously, electronic music is great if it's done right, but electronic drums just sound cheap and nasty. Get rid of them, I say!!

The only defense I can give those is when someone wants to play the drums, but they live in a place that doesn't allow loud noises. A friend of mine had a pair of electronic drums because he lived in an apartment, which is understandable. Otherwise, I think they're just a waste of money.

On a record, yeah. If you're going to produce a record, at least have the dignity to play real drums!

Rap... nothing artistic about it IMO. To me it's like "I can't sing, that's why I rap. When I try to sing I sound like crap." Sad part is it STILL sounds like crap lol.

Nah, sorry mate. Still sounds artificial.

No amount of technology will match up to the sound of a proper drum set IMO, just doesn't have the same feel.

I would agree, but I tend to put both rap and hip hop in the same general category, and I have heard some fantastically written hip hop.

Well I can't claim to understand rap or hip-hop... can't even hear a difference but if others enjoy it then more power to them. If we were all the same it would be be pretty boring

Oh of course. I was only stating my opinion on the matter I know a lot of people who don't like rap, and I say the same to them, there is some good in the genre. That's for any genre. There is some good music in each genre.

#1, first and foremost, my biggest complaint that revolves around music is big-venue tickets. Now my issue(s) are multiple and I'll try and touch on all of them.


A) Ticketmaster. Why is this organization/company allowed to retain a true monopoly on almost all big venue events. It's not just concerts, but sporting events, social 'rallys', etc. If it's a big venue, chances are ticketmaster has their name on the ticket. We, the consumer, have next to no choice in how we purchase our tickets. It's either from Ticketmaster directly, from a 2nd/3rd party 'broker', who originally got their tickets from TM or directly from a consumer, who got their tickets via TM. Or, we can go buy our tickets from the less-than-optimal scalper, who if you followed the purchase chain, it's the same as above... it all leads back to TM.

2) TicketMaster Fees. Why is TM allowed to charge multiple "fees" as well as "surcharges". Prime example. Last year I bought 4 tickets to a concert. The tickets were $35 each. My total bill was $190. Wait, wuh? Someone help me with this math. 35x4 (or 35+35+35+35) = $140. WTF is with the extra $50? Well, there was a $4 TM Fee (can't remember the name of that charge anymore) per ticket as well as an $8.50 per ticket "handling fee". Actually I think there was some tax on top of it now that I think about it, so it was actually over $200 for $140 worth of concert tickets. FML.

So on top of gripe #1 being that TM holds a monoply on our concerts, they ALSO are allowed to charge bullshit fees on top of it all. And the fees don't seem to be the same from one concert to the next. When Eric Clapton came to town a few yrs ago (and I think the same was with McCartney a couple yrs back), the per-ticket fees were at least $15 per ticket.
