Re: "The Official" Madonna Thread

^^^ I love almost all of that album Slip. It is by far my favorite Madonna album and one of my favorites overall and highly acclaimed among critics.

Don't you agree that this song has a catchy beat to it.. Great song off the CD too!!

The video is freaky.. Like she can't dance very good!!:wtf:

My son is a professional Poi fire spinner.. Like the guy is doing in the video.. It's some cool stuff to watch!!

I only have the Immaculate Collection which I bought back in '91, but can't remember the last time I played it. Of more recent years my favourite Madonna track is Hollywood

Re: "The Official" Madonna Thread

I'd rank her albums something like this. Madonna was one of the first artists that made me love music as a child (along with Michael Jackson, Prince and some others)

Like A Prayer (the epitome of her career and I think the album that truly cemented her as a real icon and proved she was more than some 80's pop star. The title track is her magnum opus if you ask me, its just an epic)
Madonna (one of the best dance albums of all time)
Ray Of Light (brilliant artistic triumph)
True Blue (while it is cheese, as a pure pop album, she never bettered it)
Confessions On A Dance Floor (a dance masterpiece)
American Life (unfairly maligned due to the political climate at the time. Maybe a little too singer-songwriter and probably too much guitar for those expecting pop and dance tunes, but an excellent album that was very different for her)
Music (while somewhat lesser to ROL, its still a good album and a progression of that album)
Erotica (I think this album drags a bit but it is her sexiest album and I like the neo-soul/smooth jazz feel she goes for with some tracks)
Bedtime Stories (I think the album suffers a little from the whole "too many cooks" mentality. I always thought this album was done to get back in the good graces after the whole Erotica/Sex backlash. I love that she can do a Bjork collaboration followed by a Babyface collaboration without blinking an eye, but it isn't among my favorites)
I'm Breathless (a cute little throwback to the 30's and 40's music even if it was the uncharacteristic "Vogue" that sold the album)
Like A Virgin (a nice pop record but the non-singles are fairly weak and even the big hits have all been played to death)
Hard Candy (While she's always been game to trying new trends, I think the whole mid-2000's hip/pop thing was a huge mistake and an embarrassment. There are some decent tracks to be found like the funky "She's Not Me" and "Dance 2Nite" but as a whole a career low point).

For those of you who like Madonna but don't want to purchase her entire discography I highly recommend purchasing The Immaculate Collection, a greatest hits album comprised of material from '82-'90. This has to be one of the highest-selling and most critically acclaimed greatest hits albums of all time and you won't regret the purchase in my opinion.

I would recommend Celebration over Immaculate because at least it uses the hit single versions of the songs. I never really cared too much for the remixes on Immaculate, "Like A Prayer" for instance is barely recognizable.

Plus it edits out bits and pieces of songs that I consider the best moments (like the ending of La Isla Bonita when she sings then speaks in Spanish, the "now I now you're mine..... now I know you're mine... NOW I KNOW YOU'RE MINE!!!" part from Into The Groove, etc..)

I like Immaculate because it's classic Madonna and that's what most people seem to appreciate when it comes to her, but yes I was actually going to mention Celebration though I don't have it because I have all of her studios anyway. :D

Oh man oh man, again, I must profess my fandom for Madonna, she is like, my Icon, yeah I know, straight dude considering Madonna a Icon/Hero is abit iffy, but damn, shes done so much good music..

Her best songs are Hung Up, Like a Prayer & Frozen

But since im a huge Madonna fan my favourite songs change like.. every hour or so.

Dunno if shes had work done though, who knows.

Oh, also, her Sticky Sweet Tour is amazing, I got the DVD and its so epic, best live concert of allll time.

I'm glad you like her LD though you seem to like her newer stuff whereas I'm more of a classic Madge fan. I have to disagree with you about Frozen though as that's always been one of the weaker moments of Ray of Light for me.
