I'm a rocker through and true but I love old school rap and hip hop. Ice Cube really pushed the boundaries for lyrics in music, especially with NWA.

The group liked to call their music "reality rap", and it makes total sense. Ice Cube has to be the best storyteller from a rapper standpoint, he basically wrote over half the lyrics on Straight Outta Compton aside from MC Ren's contribution. He didn't receive very many royalties, allegedly, and felt that it was unfair. He didn't really blow much time before he started going platinum though.

But much respect for the whole NWA group, especially Dre for that funky production... and DJ Yella, of course.

I enjoyed his other group Westside Connection more than one should. I still have the first album on cassette that I would play in the car back in the day and I would get so many judgemental looks lol.
