Have you ever met your idols?

Apologies if this topic has been raised before (I'm new) but I am really interested to find out whether any of you have ever been lucky enough to meet the musicians you admire most, and if you have what was your experience like?

They say never meet your idols and I have often spent a lot of time wondering what I would say to mine if I was to actually meet any of them.

I have met famous people in the music business before and I don't normally get star struck, but I was recently lucky enough to meet one of my own idols Noel Gallagher. I understand he's not very big in America, but being such a big Oasis fan and counting them as one of my favourite bands of all time, this was quite a big deal for me.

I had often rehearsed in my head the exact words I would say to this man (who in my eyes is a genius). However when it happened and the person who wrote "Definitely Maybe" and so many of my favourite songs was stood there right in front of me, it was a struggle to even act like a normal human being. I managed to ask him for an autograph/photo but I barely said a word to him and it definitely wasn't the experience I had always hoped it would be.

Has anything like this ever happened to anyone else?

If not who would you most like to meet and what would you say to them?

Unfortunately most of my favourite musicians died before I was even born. Maybe some of the more 'mature' members on here might have been luckily enough to meet one of these guys ;) . To be honest I don't think I would even want to meet them as (from what I've read) they weren't the nicest of people. Meeting these legends would have probably changed the way I feel about their music.

Apart from Noel, the only other person I would really love to meet (who is still alive) would be Slash. But then I would probably ruin that opportunity just like I did with Noel! :)

I'd be really interested to hear your own stories or thoughts. Thanks for reading. xxx

My sister and I met Billy Corgan in a coffee shop in Sydney about 3 years ago. My sister is a huge fan of The Smashing Pumpkins and was so excited to see him. She plucked up the courage to say a few words to him and he was nice and friiendly even though it must have pissed him off to be hassled when he just wanted a quiet cup of coffee.

I've posted this elsewhere on the board before, so I don't want to bore everybody to death, but it fits with this thread. I used to see Ozzy on a regular basis at a pub I used to frequent during the period '78 - early '80s. All I can say is he was a top bloke - you could sit and have a chat with him the same as anybody. Very difficult to keep up with him in the drinking stakes though :wa

Come to think of it I don't think I've ever met any of my favorite musicians over the decades, closest I came was Shania Twain when she walked by us on her way to do her set at the Grey Cup.

You know I'm not starstruck by anyone, even if I know who they are I would most likely leave them alone unless they said something to me first.

I have met a few of the musicians I admire over the years, a lot of them have been after the concert in bars or after the show parties. I am not really starstruck when I speak to them, just like to have a chat with them about the show and tour. I have seen many people who follow their idols to the ends of the earth and have all their memorabilia but that is not for me. It is nice to meet them when they are just a normal person and not up themselves.

^^I used to chat with musicians back in the days I went to bars and clubs, the difference being you are chatting with 'legends' and it's not like you're bothering them at a dinner with their family. I'd imagine most of them enjoy talking with their fans, I would like to share a pint or 2 with Biff but that's about the only famous rock star I can say that about.

Being a DJ for many years as well as having friends that worked in or owned record stores, I got to meet a number of musicians.

I have met many pro athletes, quite a few musicians and some actors/actresses through my business, so I really don't get starstruck.

Even met a couple of porn stars in my day. :bowchickawahwah:

Hey, you are...

Not really. Met Michael Anthony once while I was working at a Burger King and my favorite Los Angeles Laker Michael Cooper whom I copied on the court. That's it...

Been working with a local music promotion since 2009, The Invisible Orange but we've booked many bands & musician's outside of Canada as well. Accept, Alice Cooper, Destruction, Diamond Head, Hypocrisy, Napalm Death, Overkill, and Raven to name a few so even though I do it for the scene around here and just to help out I've been lucky enough to meet many musicians because of it within the last six years.

Within the last six years though I've been fortunate enough to meet some of my biggest influences from shows the IO had nothing to do with and some shows I went down to Seattle for.

Brian Downey from Thin Lizzy.
Hank Williams III.
Ian Paice from Deep Purple, The Gary Moore Band, & Whitesnake.
Joe Hasselvander from Pentagram, Raven, & Blue Cheer who's become a close friend since then.
Lee Altus from Heathen & Exodus.
Mike Sifringer from Destruction.
Scott Gorham from Thin Lizzy.
Scott 'Wino' Weinrich from The Obsessed, Probot, Saint Vitus, Shrinebuilder, & Spirit Caravan.
Victor Griffin from Pentagram, Place of Skulls, & In-Graved.

I've met a good number of famous folks in my day, most of which without even trying. I've met the likes of Scarlet Johansson, Hulk Hogan, Alice Cooper, Laura Jane Grace, and all four boys from The Darkness just to name some of the more notable people. :)
