CCR was a remarkably consistent band, so there is no consensus right answer or wrong answer (except Mardi Gras for reasons that would cause some to disqualify it as a CCR album). What is your favorite of their proper studio albums and why? At present, I would choose Green River. It sticks to the ethos of what makes CCR's overall discography great: catchy, single-ready guitar tunes stacked together with uncompromising efficiency. I suspect Cosmo's Factory will be the popular choice and I personally like it, but it sees them exploring a little more and with mixed results in my opinion.

You could easily list 20 or 25 songs you would have heard on AM or FM radio. They really did have a lot of good songs.
I cannot say that I have a favorite album. My most meaningful introduction to their music was a K-Tel compilation album. Of course now, I do have quite a bit of their albums and box set on cd that I listen to just to get a different feeling and experience.
They were a great band.

Bayou Country ......
'Born On the Bayou' is my favorite track from them but imho they were always a singles band in a way so pick up a hits package.

I agree with this, it was more about great songs than cohesive albums with them...so much so that several of their better known songs were actually B sides that were just typically catchy. This is pretty much why I like Green River out of their albums: it fits this ethos. Chronicle Vol. 1 is about as good of a compilation as you will find from any artist though.
